A few from Today's Local Rugby (Now with a D7200)

Great clear sharp set there Shaun I do like the second image, great timing.

Still trying to work out what he was trying to do in number 2, as he seems a bit far away to make a tackle :)

Lovely clear shots as Steve said, with the last one being my favourite....... The second shot is just to funny with the guy diving into space. If you shared this with the players, I can only imagine the banter going on :D

The player in number 2 & 4 stepped up to the first team last week at an away game at Burnham on Sea & I was in the right place to capture his first 1st team try as well :)View attachment 27094

I was just wondering that myself lol. It's like he was playing dead mans fall. A game I used to play when I was a kid.

Tap tackle ummm mabe if he was superman and had a cape on [emoji39]

Very good, and it looks like the light was on you're side.
Ive got all my local teams fixtures in my diary, so just need to get off my arse an get my inspiration back. Thanks for posting

If you'd been crouched or sat down it would have been a far better pic, looking down on rugby players isn't really doing them or the photos a great justice. And you wouldn't have had to chop three heads off from a lower viewpoint either.

Refer to post 9 :) and always with me, just so happens I was hit by a ball from the other game and run of play had changed just managed to snap without any real time to setup, a slight non composed snap is better than nothing in my book.

it was the shot before this that was in focus the player just managed to twist & dive in a blink of an eye his foot was a 5mm from going out , for some reason the camera did not refocus in time even though I do use BBF all the time. I was slightly peed off but it is what it is,

I've never watched a game of rugby but it looks really friendly from these pictures. They always seem to have time to give the other team a hug.

On a serious note it must be incredibly hard work, following the action for the duration of a match, crouched, in all weathers. Well done capturing humour too with the shot of the levitating man. I imagine there will be some interesting expressions as the guys jostle and get tackled.

Your exif is saying f/4 on a f/2.8 lens - any particular reason why you're not shooting at f/2.8? I feel the images would benefit from having the subjects more isolated from the background, which the wider aperture would definitely help with...particularly at 200mm.

I been shooting full manual the last couple of games & thought I try f4 to try and bring in a bit more detail of the surrounding players and letting the new camera play with the ISO & getting used to what it can do.

Plus I wanted to make sure that a certain young boy was was captured even if he wasn't the centre of attention and On the fringe of the action

The shots you refer to are all shot a 1/1000 F4 with ISO ranging between 250-400

Ps
Also knowing that the Lads Dad would be getting a large Canvas printed opted for F4 :)
Which paid off, as I now have Two Cup Finals to shoot At the Gloucester Stadium

The only explanation that makes sense is the one about wanting your son to be sharp even if he wasn't the centre of attention. But even so, just shoot at 2.8, pictures will look so much better, with better separation and detail at lower ISO.

Not my son, I only have daughters, and I normally shoot f2.8, hence trying something new :p

Oh well batteries Have been charged and checked, cards have been formatted and checked roll on Sunday, not one but two Cup final's to shot at Gloucester Kingholm stadium :)
