I headed to Bedruthan Steps on the North Cornwall coast on Saturday to photograph the Sea Thrift in golden evening light. It took the best part of 6 hours to get down there with the Bank Holiday & School Holiday traffic. A long journey for one shot! There is a mass sea fog visible on the horizon in this image, that had blanketed the entire area by the time I left.
Sadly the cloud/fog on the horizon adjacent to me blocked the sun out about 20 minutes before sunset, so the best light came earlier in the evening.

Some lovely light there Jake, just a shame the weather didn't play ball especially after a long drive.

Blimey you a Martyr to the cause Jake! I guess you realise about the traffic before you went, brave man!

Anyhow it was well worth it that's lovely golden light hitting the Thrift. Love Thrift always used to have it in the garden! But here in its natural habitat its fantastic. I think the mist bank rolling in gives another nice dimension to the shot. The light is quite good and is warming the cliff's nicely also lighting up the clouds well... Nice shot Jake.(y)

Up here light was flat and 10/10th cloud till about 7.30 when it was sunny for 30 minutes :(

The light is lovely and warm, and I really like the mist - I think it adds something to the picture.
Thanks all :) I'm a glutton for punishment it seems!

The warm light is still very nice, and the fog does add atmosphere. I think it was worth the journey but I know you'd have wanted better conditions!

Very nice shot & lighting Jake. I'd say it was worth the journey too (y)
Lovely shot of a cracking location Jake.

Missing Cornwall more now!
Thanks all! Yes Stu, I was hoping for the light to last longer, to get it as gold as possible. Was also hoping for some post sunset pinks, but alas it wasn't to be!

Well I have to be in Cornwall Sunday-Tuesday with work so I'll head down to Bedruthan and see if I can get better luck than you ;-)

Lovely light, lots of foreground interest and nicely composed. The sea fog lends it an air of mystery as well, an excellent shot.

Lights good, but haze has killed it
Thanks, but there was no haze!

My heart bleeds for you mate :p Have a nice trip! The thrift is starting to turn now, a lot of it was going brown.

Cheers Andy!
you don't get any photos sat on your ass at home......got to be in it to win it ;)
True that.

I agree with @ST4 in that there is definite haze, especially toward the horizon.
Still a very nice image though.
The flowers (clover?) in the foreground add a certain "something". :)

Thanks for you comments Ruth.
If you read the description above the image you will see it is sea fog. There is no haze. The fog rolled in extremely quickly, and by the time I left the car park the entire area was covered.
The flowers are Sea Thrift :).

Seafog, haze, its all the same as it gives the effect of haziness and it just is visible enough to slightly spoil an otherwise excellent image. The conditions aren't your fault and don't detract from your ability to use a camera.

Cool thanks for the tip off, hopefully there will be something in bloom come Sunday. I've got to go to Truro anyway, so I'll be driving past :) rude not to check it out.

Definitely worth pulling in :) Park in the NT car park though, we nearly got locked in using the private one, luckily he was just locking up as we pulled out!
