weekly SSU's TP52 for 2015

Hi Martin - nice pun & great idea for the theme. i agree with Elaine about the colours though, maybe a little tweak to bring them out a bit? :)

Experiment....Yuck on the drool  He looks like he's swallowed a trainer and still has the laces hanging out!

Heat....Picture-wise, as you said, it is what it is....bang on theme though!

Household....Oh very good  (once I "got" it....I'm a bit slow) :)

Quite like heat, not easy to photograph and you've lost a lot of detail in the flames. The pyromaniac looks happy.

Household, House Sold :bat: :)

Cheers.

Just a bit of a catch up Martin!

Heat .... Yup that's a lot of heat! Looks like a V1 rocket just landed in your garden.... Could that be a petrol can in somebody's right hand:) Lighting fires with petrol always saves you shaving I've found:eek:. They have already done to death the bit on the left. Fits the theme(y)

Household... Agree with the above crit needs a serious lift, lights very flat. Fits the theme with a slight touch of the shoehorn :)

Hi Martin how's it going...

Limit ... I really like this so simple but effective, the strong diagonal always works well and like that DOF play off the vertical plane with that angle! Was that intentional? I mean the top wire is OOF closest to you, but the bottom wire is in focus, nice optical play! Nice work Martin(y)

Bizzare ... Love this, like people with a sense of humour! Nice clean clear shot, spot on focus. Guessing that grey line it the top is a feature of the house or guttering of bungalow? Doesn't detract too much DOF has pretty much sorted it:)

Yes, with bizarre I was unable to get rid of the line of the house behind, any further cropping in a different direction showed other parts of the house. C'est la vie.

Hi Martin.....Limit. Really liking this one. I love shallow DOF shots anyway, but the subject's great :)

Bizarre...We humans really are strange aren't we  The fact that they vary the hats makes me chuckle.

Hi Martin,

Limit - a great fit for the theme, love the diagonal and the dof is spot on

Bizarre - a lovely fun image, well spotted!

:agree:

Limit ... good interpretation, and shallow DOF.

Bizarre ... good find, sharp focus.

Limit - really nice composition and Dof.
Bizarre - haha, loving it :D

Broken. These are the steps outside the old Post Office in a nearby village -- needless to say, it is now closed, as are so many.

Plenty of interest and colour Martin and, as Andrea implies, several aspects that fit the theme.

Hi martin, I love this one for broken, the light and everything makes it a lovely image :)

Spiral. A picture of two wind thingies in the garden. They have a peculiar property in that the image reflected in the silvering is rotated by 90 degrees. Very strange. If you look at the Flickr image and blow it up you'll see me in the image but rotated 90 degrees to the left. Physics is a strong point for me but this leaves me a little baffled.

That is fabulous Martin - one of the best Spirals offered in this challenge.

I love this spiral, especially with the 2nd one oof in the BG. Just wondering about the wonky frame though (top right). as for the physics, well if you look at the back of a spoon the image is inverted, well in this case the bend in the surface gets bent again so the image is upside down and then bent again by the 2nd curve which makes it 90 degrees. You don't really care about the upside down spoon image do you? lol. well you can google that bit :p

Praise indeed Carl, thank you.

Summer: I hadn't seen that bit at the top until you mentioned it. I think it I must have caused it when I cropped the image and straightened it afterward, therefore pushing a bit of the picture beyond the relevant boundary. Either that or all our eyes are wonky ;)

I like the way we can clearly see bits of your garden in the LHS one but BG is lost completely in the OOFness.

Hi Martin,

Broken - it's a very good choice for the theme, and as you say, it is sad that we're losing so many small post offices
Spiral - wow - I love this, and I think the oof background is a great counterpoint to the main subject - well done

Hi Martin.

Silhouette: Brilliant - Love the colour, reflection and composition
Entertainment: Nice building - shame only partial though.
Animal: Lovely bit of bronzework - wouldn't mind one myself but bit of a pig to get it home though :D

Hi Martin, a little catch-up from me as I've missed a couple of weeks.

Spiral - I really like this one! Beautiful colours and reflections, and a super OOF background. A really nice image.
Silhouette - another really lovely image. Beautiful colours and lots of details against the sky.
Entertain - well spotted, showing it pays to look up!
Animal - what a great life-like statue. An unusual take on the theme, too :)

Just a couple of submissions that I rather liked.

This one is Medical. I like it but I have no idea why. Is there an implied medical connection between the tumble-dryer outlet and the sign below? Is there some sort of connection between a pharmacy and a domestic appliance? Not a clue.

This one is Pale for obvious reasons. I was actually taking pictures of a nearby heron when I heard someone say "Look, he's eating a fish." Thinking 'this heron is not eating anything' I looked up and saw this Little Egret with a small fish.

Hi Martin. Medical: Maybe the mysterious link is phonetics flue and Looe. I like the colours and comp.
Pale: Definitely fits theme and goodness what a capture - well done.

Hi Martin

Medical - The crop widthwise is a bit tight for me but I like the colours and the oddness of the window :)

Pale - Not so sure where the focus is on this mate, the detail on the sand is great as is some of the feathers, but not the head ?? nice capture with the fish though, did well to get it before it ate that :)

That's a fabulous bit of heavy machinery Martin ..... whatever it is. Plenty of valves, wheels and nuts and bolts to keep the eyes occupied. Love it.

Great re-shoot of Machinery. It looks like it's been organically grown.
Centre vertical is vertical :) and plenty of interest in the shot.
The crop at the top looks a little forced to me, presumably to stop something else intruding into the shot?

The crop at the top is because the engine, or whatever it is, was extremely tall and to get the most interesting bits in I had to point the camera up. This unfortunately let a lot of featureless sky appear in the image which I had to crop out. Ideally a stepladder would have got me the best picture but alas they are not easily carried on a motorcycling holiday to Spain! :)

Proverb

A watched pot never boils. OK, he isn't quite watching it and it's a watering can but you get the gist. :)

And no, it's not a giant watering can, nor is he a small dog, it's a wonder of perspective.
