I need a laptop which I can still see in different lighting conditions.

I ordered an ASUS X555LA-XX273H 15.6-inch LED Notebook (Intel Core i5-4210U 1.70GHz, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD, HDMI, VGA, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi, Windows 8.1) which I thought would be ideal when going on holiday to download my photos, do a little editing on them in LR5 and Elements 11. All seemed well when I tried it out at home. Unfortunately when I came to use it on holiday I found that the screen was impossible to see except in normal daylight. It did work quite well though as a mirror for doing my hair :). My hubby had no problem with his Samsung anti reflective screen laptop however in the identical conditions. I am sending my Asus back and now looking for something in the £400 range which would better suit.
I use a Samsung mini external drive to store my photos. My criteria therefore would be fast processor, plenty of RAM, Screen which I can see and with a good display, using Windows and not Mac. Any advice would be very much appreciated please.:help:

Sit at a 90 Degree angle to the sun and wear sunglasses. That is what I did with my surface pro when I was working in Cyprus recently.

Thank you both for your replies but the Asus laptop is now on it's way back to Amazon before I put a hammer through it. I'm now trying to find a laptop with an anti glare screen. Any help would be appreciated. My budget is about £400.

You're editing outside in sunlight? Why not just wait until later and do it indoors. It's far too bright to edit with any accuracy.

It was also rubbish when I tried to use it even to answer my emails outside and inside. The screen had absolutely no contrast. I never had any problem with my old Samsung glossy screen -it worked everywhere. All Samsung screens were also antiglare but unfortunately they no longer make laptops. I am considering a Lenovo but need to research them further.

There are loads of cricket photographers that would disagree with you. Just use a weather housing as suggested.

Yeah but they have no choice. If you're on holiday, you do. Just wait until you get back to the hotel.

Look for an IPS matte display with as high NIT rating as possible outside. Quite a few manufacturers will sell them. Ideally one of the brands like Sager/Clevo can custom build specs with different screens/processors etc, if you're comfortable with those brands.
I use a Gigabyte P34W v2 of which its display is reasonably usable outside. I guess in direct sunlight i'd still need to shade the screen a bit, although i'd be more worried about the laptop overheating.
