Hi,
Because I live near Shoreham just less then a year - I decided this year visit this Airshow http://www.shorehamairshow.co.uk/. What do you think about it? Where is the best place to "sit" and take pictures? I heard that the end of the hill of Downs near Upper Beeding is quite nice. If I pay for the ticket - where I am allowed to stand to have the best view for the planes-in-flight?
Maybe someone else is planning to stick his tripod into the grass at the same time?

The runway is SSW-NNE and so visitors are taking photos into the sun or not far off as the crowd is on the Eastern side of the runway.

Since it is a RAF charity fundraiser, Shoreham tends to attract a lot of the smaller and older planes so the best views are from inside the showground and on the crowdline since most can do their displays without straying too far from the airfield.

I think the naughty field you are referring to is the one on the hill behind Lancing College. It is quite a distance from the airfield but the sun is at a more favourable oblique angle.

Larger/faster planes such as the Vulcan, Typhoon, Sally B, Lancaster (but maybe not this year as it is still being fixed) will come directly overhead this naughty field but a lot of other displays will just be a speck in the viewfinder.

You can get some great shots but most of the displays won't come near you. Below is one from this field last year.

I have done this naughty field before but you may have a slightly better view from the footpath that runs alongside this field down the hill in front of the college. Not tried it though.

Whether viewing from a naughty field or inside a show - I always buy a ticket for those I attend.

Looks like that is directly in front of Lancing College. I don't know if that area is accessible and have never used it.

*In theory* it should provide a good vantage point for the early part of passes from the North towards the airfield and also for landings, but passes from the South would be into the sun.

If you get your shot in early in the pass then you could get a nice background of the other side of the hill, but that will quickly change to a backdrop of the concrete arch bridge or the industrial area by the harbour; either of which will ruin your shot. I have no idea why I kept this one but this is the sort of thing I mean.

As you are local - visit beforehand and assess for yourself.

Mill Hill will probably require a resident permit for vehicle access, based on previous experience.
