i love taking photos, my camera goes everywhere with me..

I have a coolpix 7600, which is now approx 11 years old. outdoor shots in good sunlight come out very well. I recently tried using the museum setting to take some pictures at flambards, whilst on holiday....very disappointing ....

I think it's time I moved up....looking around £250-£300
there is such a choice, it's hard to make a decision......so many contradiction reviews...

would really like some suggestions. my present camera just has various modes with no room for any manual settings.

I mainly use the camera on holiday, for scenes architecture and indoor shots, plus of course people.

look forward to any suggestions

thanks

Hi Steve and welcome. You may be better to post this in the equipment section. More chance of replies.

Hi Steve, And welcome aboard TP ."Enjoy".

First I would ask do you wan to go with inter changeable lenses or a one solution fits all

I employed a technique to choose a camera a few years back that I reckon was pretty good. I ended up buying the camera I least liked on paper but it was always spot on so I was very happy with it. I went to a department store at a quiet time and asked the assistant if I could try each camera. I took each one in turn, turned off the flash and just pointed it randomly and pressed the shutter hard. I then gauged which was fastest to shoot and which took the best picture looking at focus and colour balance. In the store the light was far from ideal but I wanted it to be difficult for the camera so that I could gauge how 'intelligent' it's software was. I chose the one with the best balance of speed and quality.

Hi Steve :welcome: welcome to the forum

Hi Steve and a warm welcome to TP.
Hope you enjoy yourself here :)

With regards to your new camera, the equipment section is a good place to start, but I would try to decide what you want it to do, what type of camera you're thinking of - DSLR, Bridge, New or 2nd hand etc and hopefully some useful help and advice will follow...

thanks everyone for your welcoming wishes....have posted in equipment as suggested.......

my daughter bought a cool pix ( can't remember the model ) from Argos she swears by it, wasn't expensive approx £80 gives brilliant pictures....batteries last for ever......keeps trying to persuade me to buy one, but Argos !!! and £80 surely I can do better....

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Hi Steve and welcome - may I say that the camera you choose is, these days, not all that important - it's knowledge, technique and persistence that pays off, especially in learning what your camera can do.

As for Argos and £80 - why not?

It sounds like an excellent place to start especially since you seem to rate the photos so highly and even if, or when, you decide to get a better camera you won't have thrown away hundreds of pounds on a camera you may not like.
