HDEW or Panamoz

I cant believe that we all agree on the main thing here that this thread is pap and old hat now. No more comments from me about any grey stuff
 
Just bought em5II and pro lens from Panamoz ordered 5pm Monday was here Thursday morning. Full 3 year warranty I also registered it on Olympus site and got 30 months. No Customs duty, however Panamoz do reimburse you should you have to pay..

10/10 for service

On another grey company - value basket. Never had a problem until this purchase. Delivered my lens when I was on holiday when I said not to. Delayed at value basket's end due to customs. I liaised with the courier and told them to hold until a certain date. They delivered when I was away. The parcel lay underneath my car for a full week. There were two holes in the packaging. Moisture could have got in. Complained and express total dissatisfaction and they care not a jot as I have 3 years warranty! Very very disappointed with their service and attitude. Never again.
 
I purchased my D610 from Hdew and my 14-24mm from Panamoz
I'm now after a D750 it looks like it's going to be Panamoz for me this time around
 
I bought my Olympus OMD EM1 and 12-40 from HDEW a year ago, and just got a Nikon D750 with 24-120 from Panamoz - both were totally problem free, but I have to say that with the BACS payment Panamoz were cheaper and also they delivered faster - order placed Monday pm, camera delivered Thursday am.
Both get a positive vote from me, but Panamoz will be getting my next order..
 
How is the Panomoz service and convenience when it comes to non fault warranty work such as camera or lens calibration, which is performed FOC for purchases within the UK (e.g. from HDEW), for Canon at least?
 
No idea Tim, but having never had any problems with a camera or lens in over 35 years of owning a 'proper' camera I can say that the savings I have made are so far well worth it.
No way could I have afforded to buy my Nikon D750 with 24-120 lens unless I went grey, so it was a risk worth taking for me. Had there been a problem I would have been able to answer...!
 
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for grey. I've bought from Panamoz, HDEW, Digital Rev, Onestop-Digital and others over the years and never had any problems. I just believe there is extra value included when purchasing from HDEW even if the savings, which are often significant, are marginally less than with Panamoz. Nothing wrong with consumer choice. :)

For my tastes £919 with full UK manufacturer warranty support, credit card protection and additional consumer protection together with no tax concerns and the £380 saving over UK high street prices strikes the right balance. The Panamoz price is lower, but does it offer better value? The choice is yours.
 
Do either of them ever stock the 1dx? I'm considering getting one but didn't see it listed on either site.... any recommendations for somewhere to get one? (at grey import prices) simply electronics and slrhut seem to have the best prices but their customer feedback is all over the place so I won't risk either of them..... any recommendations?

I would make an enquiry regarding the 1DX as one or both of them may be able to source one at a good price. I'm sure I've read of others doing that and it's what I'd do.
 
I'm having a small issue with HDEW, well more fedex I guess.

We ordered £1444 worth of gear on 17th August. It was sent next day delivery by fedex on 20th August and on 21st I was out and the parcel said delivered "scan only"

I don't have any safe places to leave parcels and have checked with neighbours but nothing.

I have emailed HDEW 3 times and tried calling twice but nothing yet.

HDEW do all you need to do is ask.

As for then not answering calls or emails I've never experienced that. They always answer my calls and emails when I email them.

I called them earlier to enquire about a Sigma 150-600 Sport and all they said was 'We don't sell it.' Not, 'But I'll see if we might be getting it in' or 'I'll get back to you once we have one'. Just disinterested.

That's a strange reply from them. A yes or no or we can get one would suffice.

I've just emailed panamoz about buying another body and they took 2 emails to reply with details. All looks good though so far. I'll report back when I get all the stuff I've ordered.
 
Looking to buy my second from here but will make sure vat is paid. Even if it means paying and claiming it back from panamoz. Win win!

I wouldn't be so sure, they may not be so accommodating if you go out of your way to make sure the duty is paid yourself
 
I always get nervous buying from HDEW, only because you place your order, get a payment accepted confirmation within a few hours, then....nothing. It can be 5 days or so before the item is actually sent (from within the UK, normally RMSD in my experience)

Overall they are only normally a day or so longer than Panamoz, but with Panamoz it always feels like something is happening as you see it jumping around from HK to Dubai, to Germany then to the Midlands before going out for delivery.

I agree totally - Panamoz were cheaper, very quick to reply to emails and there was not that 3-5 day silence that gives you the willies. However as tdodd says, HDEW do offer certain advantages that I hadn't fully appreciated - see his post 130
 
I live a 10 minute walk away from HDEW so I've used them for a couple of major lens purchases recently (EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro - EF 70-200 f/2.8 IS II + 2x extender). Both times they called me when they arrived and I just popped over to pick them up. Never had any problems with them and would use again.

I was just looking at that myself, I've been yes / no / yes about a D750 and went to look tonight and noticed that the BACS option was gone. I'm going to email them now,
I'll let you know my findings.
 
6D arrived from HDEW today, 3 working days from order to delivery.

That's a shame. I've had good service from them when my wife and I bought a 16-35f4L each, using the bank transfer facility. I was weighing them up for my next body purchase and a 24-70f2.8LII as well.
 
HDEW had a bank holiday discount which I took advantage of by ordering a 6d + 24-105 F4 and a 7D MK2. It's a little unnerving to receive confirmation via Gmail address but apparently they're having some technical issues.

First body purchase for 7 years and change from Nikon so hope everything goes smoothly.
 
I got an email back from Panamoz regarding their BACS

It looks like I'll wait until BACS is back up and running and save nearly £50.00 on a D750

HDEW are fine, if your worried why not give their UK number a call, my experience with HDEW & Panamoz have always been very good.
 
I purchased a 5D MK3 and a 24-105 from Hdew back in April this year. I knew of the company for a while, whilst researching other places such as Panamoz, Digi Rev etc and also checking Camera Price Buster. A friend of mind has the year before purchase a 6D and 70-200 from Hdew and had good service and also had an issue with the 6D some months later which was promptly and efficiently resolved also. That, along with the fact they have a bricks and mortar building in Surrey swung it for me. I have not regretted by purchase at all and will be using them again in the future no doubt.

I'd be very wary of paying by BACs as you don't get the protection otherwise afforded by the consumer credit act as you would on a credit card. Not suggesting that they would be out to stiff anyone but if for some reason it's lost or damaged in transit you'll be a party in the bun fight that ensues - with a credit card they are responsible for ensuring you receive the goods or a refund.
 
Actually Section 75 may not apply if you pay through Paypal (the alternative to BACS through Panamoz) anyway, so be warned either way ;)
 
I was wary about paying by bacs, but I didn't have any issues at all from Panamoz
 
It seems the bacs has gone down on Panamoz it may be because the £ has dropped against the $ 7 or 8pts

Someone posted in another thread that they asked Panamoz about the BACS discount and they said they will be bringing it back soon
