Hi Guys,

I'll be looking to go out Friday morning with the aim of photographing some wading birds and the like. Does anybody have any spots or pearls of wisdom they'd be happy sharing with me before the day? I'll be looking to go around Barry/Ogmoor/Cardiff Bay area.

Thanks

Anybody?

Can't help with SW Tim but rumours of regular sightings of Barn Owl & SE Owl around Aust :)

Newport Wetlands isn't too bad if you get there early. Just east of Newport. Have a look on the RSPB site.

I seen a few birds of prey around southerndown (ogmore) along the cliff tops.

Cheers Guys,

Any more information like that is great.

should be a few purple sandpipers about in ogmore now, if you go there , go down hill to beach, follow road past surf rescue buildings, to the end of road, you will see a gate , go through gate about fifty yards, and go down to rocks..these birds feed on the surf edge, look very carefully, these can be missed easy, even when there are 15 birds or more, best time is when tide is just going out, they will follow the tide out... if i wasn't working i would show you...mark.

Thanks Mark, I'll take a look, but if you ever do fancy a photo meet I'd be up for it.

Appreciate this is an old post but did you find any decent sites for birds?

Forest Farm is become my usual hunting grounds. You see kingfishers, woodpecker, sometimes bittern, water rail and snipe. There's also the usual suspects as with any nature reserve (Robins, tits, nuthatch, duck, etc). I also go to Rumney Great Wharf a lot for the Short Eared Owls.
