Amazon Black Friday Deals. First and Second Class Buyers

Last year I kept a close eye on the Amazon Black Friday Deals and in fact bought a Lumix GH3 on the day. This year I see that I'm a Second Class Buyer, because I choose not to be an Amazon Prime Member, never likely to be and save myself £79 for the sake of waiting a couple of days for delivery. I see that quite a lot of the deals this year are delayed for non members. Amazon might like to think that I'm going to rush an application for Amazon Prime but thats not the case. For me it's a turn off and I'm not going to bother tracking the odd one or two deals that might be really good, watch all the items disappear and not be able to bid. Sorry Amazon, you've lost a Black Friday Deals customer.

Me too although all I ever bought was a mini speaker, last year was poorest yet, surprised there wasn't a Clairol Foot Spa in there

I have prime family or something like that (I get delivery, early access but none of the TV stuff, kindle library etc...).

I do agree with you. It seems like an odd decision, they started it a few months ago on normal lightning deals. I think they're doing it to justify the massive price increase for the old prime members who only really want free delivery and not the TV and other crap who no longer have a cheaper just delivery option.

If I paid £79 for membership id expect that they would be doing something for members to help make it worthwhile, and this is just another sweetener for existing members. I doubt its likely to coax more people into becoming members just in time for the black Friday deals, although im sure there will be some that will gamble on spending the extra £79 in the hope that the potential savings they make on the deals would still leave them better off.

if you want the deals earlier than everyone else...pay the dosh.

The deals are, in the main, a good way to clear stock that's been sitting around or overbought. The few really good deals will sell out anyway, the rest will still be available to 'non Prime' members...so it's not going to harm Amazon in the slightest.

For what it's worth, we finally took the plunge with Prime this year and wouldn't be without it now. Unlimited photo backup, free delivery (or £1 movie rental credit if you opt for slower delivery), and combined with a Fire TV stick the Prime TV/Movie range is becoming pretty impressive. Overall it's a bargain if you use at least two of the services offered, £6.50 per month is less than you pay for most on-demand TV/Movie services now, so to have that, unlimited free delivery and photo back-up is great for us.

From what I've seen, you can apply for Prime, use it for Black Friday, cancel within the 30(?) day cancellation period and pay nothing for it.

I'm not a prime member but have bought several lightening deals this week. Nothing I have looked at got remotely close to selling out to only Prime members. Friday could be different of course. This is just a classic form of price discrimination that many retailers do.

Amazon have reduced the price for prime to £59 during the Black Friday event for new subscribers. IMHO its worth it, the free next day delivery, delivery on a Sunday, etc. Early access to deals is just a nice bonus.

Just sign up for a free 30-day trial then cancel it before it ends. You can even take advantage of it during the Xmas sales. Prime has so many perks though, especially now that I get free 1hr delivery incl. evenings.

Lytro camera and a samyang 50mm f/1.4 coming up tomorrow.

Prime membership is, for me, well worth it. A great selection of free movies and TV shows, a massive collection of free music and free next-day delivery (I buy 2 or three items a week).

We aren't prime members, but the last 3 deliveries we've had from amaz0n have been within 24 hrs, inc 1 on a Sat & 1 on a Sunday. So I won't be paying to join.

@Spudgun

Have you got a link for this please as looking on Amazon it's currently showing as £79 for the year? :(

I have also bought quite a few items this week without prime membership. And received a couple next day and others due this week. Christmas shopping made easy.

I didn't buy it but there was a drone on sale yesterday it went up to 80% sold in the prime time but after 1/2 an hour dropped back to 40%. Also quite a few items with stock at end of time limit.

Sorry for the confusion. It was 15-18th November, I didn't pay attention to the dates as I'm already a member.

No worries - strange that Amazon did not prompt me to join at the lower rate as I have been ordering quite a few items of late  - just searched and the lower rate deal was reported on the Hotdeals UK site.

I order so much via Amazon that it is worth my while for the delivery element alone. That is why I joined prime. It has improved over time and I cancelled my love film subscription as I have prime. Good content etc well worth it.

Didn't fancy anything at all this Friday. Just rubbish unnecessary tat. However I don't see the issue between making it available first to prime customers. In fact I find it weird how someone who isn't willing to pay then moans about not getting the same service.

think amazon goes from bad to worse. I used to love them but these days - argos aren't far behind them

my fave on the net is zappos (when in the us) and wiggle in uk. both offer good customer service like 365 days to do returns
