I'm looking to get a new monitor for editing and have narrowed it down to the Dell P2416D and the Dell P2714H. My current monitor is a 23" 1080p display. Would a bigger screen/same resolution or same size/better resolution be the best choice? Or is there more to it than that?

Thanks.

I'd go for 24" @ 1440p over 27" @1080p as the higher res is what gives you actual real estate in terms of how much you can display on screen. The only possible downside is that text/UI may be a bit too small but it's personal preference. I'd take 27" @ 1440p or 30"+ @4k over both of your options though.

I also recommend the U2515H. Had it over 6 months for development and editing and colours are excellent. 1440p is brilliant for LR. Judging by your recent lens acquisitions you should get the U2515H :)

Ok, I'll hold off until next week then and pick up the 25".

If you shop around you might be able to pick up a little cheaper pretty sure the one's we bought where less than £250 at the time although the rrp on them is £382 tbf

I got mine from here and it comes with Dell Premium Panel Guarantee, 3 years Advanced Exchange Service.

I've been scouring the net for about a week at U2515H prices and its £255 Amazon or £250 eBay.

Thanks for everyones help, I've just ordered a Dell U2715H monitor. Decided it was worth the extra investment as it should last me a while!!
Be interested to hear your thoughts on the monitor when you've had a play, David, as I've been eyeing the same one for a while now.

Other people who are running the 1440p range of monitors, how are you connecting it? My computer doesn't have a displayport and will only offer 2048x1152 @60hz or the full 2560x1440p @30hz which is pretty crap. I've connected via a HDMI cable and all my drivers are up to date. I've tried setting a custom resolution but it will only run at 30hz.

Any help much appreciated.

@minnnt I had the same issue on one of my laptops via HDMI and had to settle for 55hz to get 1440 working over HDMI.

This may shed more light.

Hello mate, thanks very much. Just been having a play and I've managed to get it up to 55hz using the 'CVT - Reduced Blanking' option. I've sped up the mouse pointer also which makes it as good as before. I have the guys where i bought it from looking into it for me but until they come back with an answer, I'm happy with it. :)

Fortunately my graphics card has a display port out. I suspect for a fraction of the price of your new monitor you could pick up a second hand graphics card that has display port. Assuming you have a desktop of course.

I have mine connected via display port I was going to recommend the card I have as it seems to work well and I thought was quite basic but when I looked it up there they are £300.

Yes that's what i am considering mate. Any recommendations?
Just checked eBay and they are a little pricier than I thought.

Seems the display ports started with the Nvidia gtx 660's which tend to go for £55 used.

I prefer a 16:10 ratio over a 16:9
I think I remember when last looking that a 24" 16:10 was actually taller in height than a 27"16:9 so that all you gained from a 27" 16: 9 was about 3 inch of width

Another vote for U2515H - got 2 of them superb. Both connected to a Macbook and it drives them without glitch.

Only complaint is the touch buttons, sometimes hard to switch the damn thing on in the dark!
