weekly RG Miller 2016 - 52 Challenge

Hi RM

Seen this car a couple of times and just realised it's a Mini, late 70s I'd say. Love the BG but struggling to find a focal point.

Hi, abandoned mini, what a shame. Looks slightly OOF and was the blur to the BG added in post?

Think it'd make a nice high contrast B&W.

Cheers.

Thanks! Yes I added the light lens blur in the far distance to bring the car forward in the image - lifting out a couple of bright yellow JCB's that were quite a distraction!

Much better with the tower vertical. (y)

Always nice to learn something eh?

:) Indeed ! That is why I'm here!! o_O

Hi Richard, catch up time for me...

0 Old: cracking old camera and a wonderful ref background. Really like this as the detail is superb with the punch added with the background. You do need to get it flat though :)
1 Metal: again, a super composition and some lovely lighting on the object itself. Background is interesting and adds something which a simple backdrop wouldn't - really smart (y)
2 Captive: another super shot and again, carefully chosen lighting. Smart capture and a great idea.
3 Miniature: A good composition but the graininess of the image detracts for me, as does the halo around the teapot. As others have said, not sure the colour cast works but it's always good to experiment.
4 Happy: A capture which works better (for me) if you know the subjects - you've said yourself, the light wasn't great and to my eyes it's not as sharp as it could be. A nice picture and perfectly on theme, but it doesn't possess the same wow factor as the first three.
5 Abandoned: I like the mini shot and don't mind the PPing at all. I think I prefer the colour version, but like both - great spot given you were on your way to shoot something else and I think you've done well to grab this in preference to the hospital :)

Hi Richard,

A couple of good shots for the Abandoned theme. I prefer the mini shot, nothing wrong with the Asylum shot but it doesn't have the interest of the mini for me. As a personal preference I much prefer the colour version of the mini, I really like the warmth of the light on the mini but you lose that in the B & W one.

Hi, nice find with the mini certainly looks abandoned, have to say it would be quite interesting to see inside, maybe quite scary

Take 2 on the building for me nice find on the mini too (y)

Hi Richard.
The first of the two takes on the Mini Clubman is my preference for the colours it brings. It's not abandoned though, it's a RatRod :)
Ian has already mentioned (and you've fixed) the horizon in the Hospital shot, but that is something to watch out for... Tell you what though, it would make a great Tilt Shift effect image.

Still prefer the colour version for some strange reason ... I invariably favour b&w. Like that abandoned building too ... just needed a dramatic sky to top it off.

That mini really does look abandoned and I much prefer the original colour version with the dramatic sky and light (y)

Hi sorry I'm late to the commenting party (again)

Great images to start you 52 challenge especially like Old lovely colours and your first Abandoned although it make me sad to see a Mini left in that state!

Keep up the good work

Sorry Mark - I wondered if that poor Clubman would be a tad traumatic for you!

Take two on abandoned is much better - lovely creepy building - consider photoshopping in some clouds?

Colour version of the Mini for me, very nice.
I like the straightened asylum shot but looks a little soft on my screen.
Look forward to seeing more.

Late to your thread Richard, my apologies!
Excellent set of images so far, but my favourite has to be METAL.
The lighting on that is lovely, as is the subject.

Wk6 Camouflage - Caught this little family group just as they stood in awe! Not the sharpest shot of the Lord of the Sky you will ever see - but thought it fitted in with the theme pretty well this week!

Your right...not the sharpest, but bank on theme and always nice to see one :)

Yeah! I thought it was a model with toy people too. Great POV to show the scale. Spot on for Camouflage.

Lovely old plane Richard, cool idea (y)

I also thought it was a model. Great for the theme, would like to have seen the whole plane in shot rather than space above.

I'm another one who thought it was a model to start with...
So it that vein I would have made it more model like by playing with the TS Effect. Though as there isn't an obvious line to follow I would use a radial gradient rather than reflected.

Thanks everyone for the comments! I had a few sharper shots of the whole plane minus the family group after they had wandered off but it did indeed look just like a model! It was taken in the museum at Duxford. I did wonder about a tight crop of the family with just the wing in shot but liked this image for its composition.

I wonder what this week will bring!!

Camouflage - I also thought it was a model to start with. Nice subject for the theme, I've always been fascinated by these planes. Shame the tail is chopped off but sometimes just have to go with the best you get when they are grabbed shots.

Hi Carl - As the weather was so poor today I thought I might have a go at adding a more dramatic sky to the Asylum shot - pushing the old PS skills along - so thanks for the suggestion!
