Fuji X-E1/X-E2/X-E2S/X-E3 Owners Thread

Just a heads up to say that I have just listed a Lensmate thumbs grip in the freebies section. It is specifically for X-E1 but fits the X-E2 as well. I received it as a freebie on here and am passing it along to someone else now I no longer have an X-E2

As for the zoom, the 2.8-4 of the 18-55 is very tempting. As it is included as a kit lens, I didn't expect it to be that way. I thought it would have been a 3.5-5.6 lens.
The real kit lens of the range is the XC16-50, which has the aperture range you mention. It's worth remembering that the entry level cameras in the system are the X-A and X-M bodies. The 18-55 is no more a kit lens than the 24-120VR F4 is on Nikon.

The 18-55 is sold with the XE2 and XT-10 as part of a one box kit. Ergo its a kit lens in that scenario :)

I know, that's how I got mine. As is the 24-120 with the D800 but it's not a "kit lens" in the spirit of the post I quoted, which was the point. It isn't a lens built to a low price compromise as a "starter" lens.

Anyone know where I can source a lens turbo, specifically Minolta to Fuji?
This was discussed a while ago on the FujiX forum, the Minolta-Fuji lens turbo seems to be an extinct species unless you can find old stock or a used example.

Has anyone here used the Fuji 55-200 telephoto on an XE1/2/s? If so how does it fare and are there any issues. A few photo would be great :)

Yes. No issues. Plenty shared in this thread I'm sure ;)

Only real issue I've found is that the XE1/55-200 combination can be very slow to autofocus.

I've almost convinced myself to buy an X-E2. I just got a trade-in quote from MPB and their SH prices are higher than this UKDigital price new. Are UK Digital a respected/trusted retailer?

Edit: Oh - £20 cheaper still in Mathers, I see, and I've heard good things about them

I got mine from there and had no problems. Their communication was excellent. It was a bit cheaper at Mathers last time I looked, but without the free bag.

Thanks guys

There's quite a price difference between the XC 50-230 and the XF 55-200 - I can see that the XC would not be as fast as the XF and also that the XC is plastic but are there any significant IQ differences? Also does anyone know why the Fuji refurbished silver XC 50-230 are so much cheaper than the black ones - is it just personal tastes here.

Cheers

There are significant build quality differences, the 55-200 is a substantial metal bodied lens, while the 50-230 feels very lightweight. That said the optics on the 50-230 are very good, and excellent given the price. I expect that black is just more popular than silver, hence the price difference.

Many thanks, I'll look a bit further into this

That'll teach me not to dither. No more at those prices on Mathers or UKDirect :(

The X-E2 is effectively and end of line model now, and I suspect that several retailers sold off stock at cheap prices, to get it off the shelves, it's a case of when it's gone it's gone!! There will only be a small window of opportunity to buy end of line products before stock becomes exhausted (unless new stock is found)

That's a nice picture :D It's the sort of picture a chap could have on the wall in his man cave. Maybe over a snooker table.

Well, what was I supposed to do? I'm loving my new XE-2 and I've found that I'm using the 'standard' 18-55 XF mostly at the wide setting. Then along came a mint 6 month old XF 18mm prime for £170 delivered. Should I have walked on by?

What I'd like to do is to find a smaller body (XM-1?) for this lens which would then give me a very portable 'landscape' camera for when I'm out walking. Something that would fit in a pouch on a belt and not too heavy. I currently use a Canon G16 for this and it is great but sometimes a bit limiting.

Any ideas?

Either the -M1 or the -A2 would fit the bill.

I have an X-A1 with the 27mm almost permanently attached which is about the size of an X20 :)

The 18mm is not great in the corners, I feel that landscapes are its weakness, I'm not sure further investment into it as a landscape tool is wise.

It's great for street, people and close up isolation though.

Just come back from a very pleasant trip to Norfolk & Suffolk - where I met these photogenic beauties:-

They were just lying around but I couldn't get them in the car boot!!

I've Googled this and even read the online manual but can't find it. On the X-E2/S I believe there is no view mode button as there is on the X-T10 for example. Is it possible in some way to set the camera for viewfinder only with the rear screen off? Or do you have to rely on the eye sensor? I don''t have this camera but am trying to decide between the X-T10 and this one.

Thanks,
AL

EDIT: Just read the DP review - looks like you have to go into the menu. Since writing this post I've managed to find loads of comments regarding this topic today!

Time for a detour on the way home from a meeting this morning..

Just had a nice lunch in a lovely pub and thought I'd like to try out my Samyang 12mm on my recently acquired XE-1. I bought the XE-1 to use as a dedicated body for this lens as it does take some setting up - that leaves my XE-2 free for Fuji lenses. I am very pleased with the lens - it seems that you leave the focus on infinity, set the aperture and hey presto, a lovely image

This is Titchfield Abbey - at one time a religious house but then after Henry V111 had his way, it was sold off to Lord Wriothesley (pronounced risley) who converted it to a private dwelling.
