Well I didn't do exactly what I set out to do, however I got some photos still. Will take a little while to process them all, but here's a selection of what I've done so far - can see the rest on flickr.

Very nice set of images, really makes a difference when you bring your own sunshine!!

Was it difficult to shoot with flash in one hand and camera in the other in what must have been a really busy event?

Cool characters and captures!

I had it set to preview image after each shot, so I could see the lighting and quickly readjust if I hadn't got it right. I think it went fairly smoothly!

Excellent shots :) Well, I definitely didn't see you there, also, I screwed up, got p***ed off and came home with no pictures, but another lesson learned (or rather, another reminder that I need to learn more!)

Where did you capture the shots? Do you stay in one place and grab people as they go by, or do you walk around inside the halls, or out in the corridor?

No pictures at all?

Mostly I walked around the large halls chasing people down :) a few were taken in the corridor.

Great stuff.
Your set up seems to have done the job.
I really like the Alice ones on your Flickr, the wide angle from above works well with them as it does with most of the others.

I was there yesterday too, but as a steward, so did't really get the chance to get the camera out, but met and talked to some great people.
As ever, your photos are very well executed.

I saw a few people wandering around with light modifiers and I thought of you and your last set, but I didn't spot you!

I had in mind to try something similar before I decided to steward instead. I'm finding the fuji x-pro2 very usable in one hand, which I could not manage with the old 5D3, but perhaps in October...

edit - if you don't mind - what softbox is that? The smallest I have for the speedlight is a 60x60 but that's still too large for hand held I think, especially as a one man band on the day.

It's this softbox,
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Godox-AD-S7-Multi-functional-Softbox-WITSTRO/dp/B00MA5OEO6

But the mount has straight slot, instead of push and turn - it actually came off a couple of times during the day. One time it came loose it pulled the bulb out of the flash with it!! So whilst it's light and portable, it does have some negatives..

I think some of my early stuff is a gripped 5dm3 in one hand :D oh how i ached..

They work pretty good for me Dan, great set of images.(y)

George.

Thanks 31 on Flickr as of right now with about 34 to go :D ..

:) I saw them stacking up on Flickr and will have a good look when back on my computer, iPad at the moment but it doesn't do your portraits justice!

Ace! Settings? Presume you stopped down to kill ambient and then hit them with a pretty strong flash?

Nice images and great technique. So do you use a godox flash?

cheers, yup the 360

the softbox fell off a couple of times, it has a straight slot - instead of slot and twist.. so it just pulled itself out - even though it was tight

I made the slot in mine a bit safer by drilling next to the main slot and filing out the metal between to make an L shaped slot similar to a lightbulb fitting.
