Last week I had an epic mornings fun at the banks of Lochan Na Fola shooting onto the reflection of Buachaille Etive Beag. I took a few frames as the way the clouds moved cast some very nice lighting effects onto the mountain. Being so early and also being a midweek day plus not such a popular shooting point I had this wonderful spectacle all to myself.

The light moved down a little

It then disappeared for a while and revisited us by lighting the tops of the peak

It is good to see you posting mate. I like BEB a lot but I know I don't shoot it enough compared to BEM. The best BEB shot going is @Steelo dawn one during winter. I tried a sunrise here over the winter but its position (behind BEM) relative to where the sunrises in winter makes it harder to get first light hitting the peak. Not so in the summer though.

Can't fault these, and hard to pick a favourite as they are all excellent. If pushed, maybe the second one because of the touch of light on the foreground rock

Its why I kept them all. I often like to just take 1 or 2 good shots back, but I loved them all for different reasons and they mark out a fabulous natural sequence of events that only I got to see that AM.

I guess thats a big plus of digital, firing the shutter doesn't cost what it does with film and storage these days is cheap.

Beautiful set Steve.
That rock is an important feature in all of them IMO...but the light in the last edges it as my favourite.

Cheers mate, it's still one of my personal favourite shots too :)

Cracking set also! Hard to choose a favourite tbh.

First for me Steve purely for the light, although they're all very nice. Not sure on the central positioning though, but that's just nit picking :)

No.5 for me Steve because the reeds are nicely lit up, although would have been nice for the top to also be lit up as well. Just wished I didn't live so far away as it's a great location to walk about and enjoy.

What a cracking set Steve. Mouse did the scrolling dance on this set, but if I had to make a call it would be between 1 and 2, because of the special light. Splitting 1 and 2, a nightmare but 1 by half a whisker.
Critique really? :ROFLMAO: if I were really pedantic I might suggest 50:50 or central (like Neil said) but I think the "Rules" can be just taken too far and to my mind there are certain images that can just break the rules and work. I have tried to work out what it is about certain images that can break the rules and get away with it, I think perhaps it just that they are of such a high standard, it matters not! I don't think I'll need to worry about that sadly.
That golden sash of light in 1 is beautiful as is the contrast and I think the subdued light on the rock in the foreground is better, just MHO
Great set whichever way you look at them(y)

The second one for me. Agree with the above comments ref the central positioning, but thats your thing, so stick with what you enjoy.
I'd never shoot in this way, but I am interested to see the progression of the light, as it's something I watch very often, but never shoot in this way.

I have taken a series of shots before then I really cant decide which I like best.... Is that why you threw them on the mercy of TP Steve?;)

I'm a big fan of reflective landscapes and they just lend themselves to central Horizons. I like standing on a lake front and seeing the whole reflection. Composing differently would cut things off.

I like the progression and watching the light change, it's such a beautiful thing to be around it seems rude to take just one shot and each moment I shot is special for its own thing.

I tend not to move around much. I'll pick a location for sunrise or sunset and just stick with it taking it in and fire the camera off when I feel the need to

Just to clarify I can do non reflective landscapes and central horizons but it doesn't work for me as much.

Enjoy this

Interesting to read the crit re central positioning. My view on this is whatever works, and for these types of images I think it does work and very well indeed. These exhibit good balance between the two "halves" with interest in each. As Alf noted some are a tad darker then usual, but I often feel you can get a bit too bright with them so for me they work better because of that. All are good but #2 is the best of the set for me, love the light on the reeds and just touching the foreground rock. It is also a nicer light too.
