White-tailed Sea Eagle, a.k.a. flying barn-door. Taken in Norway earlier this year. Magnificent birds that at close range takes your breath away.

Both good but I like #2 the best, the 'pose' and the breath making it special but personally I would crop off some of the base snow as I find it distracting as it is :)

Thanks for your comment Gramps, but I personally find without space for the 'virtual feet' more uncomfortable.

Great set all round Des, the second with the breath is stunning - that'll look great printed large. I like the last as well, but I'd have to do something about that snowflake just above the eye - OCD overload!

Any more?

Mike

I love the first one. the bird looks so focussed on catching that fish. Sometimes a "fierce-looking" bird of prey can be a cliché because a lot of the time they don't look or act fierce at all.

Presumably it was from a boat trip?

In the case of the standing birds I think it's a shame that the legs and feet are missing. The pose in No 2 is fabulous otherwise.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, Jeremy. I do find it bazaar however, about the 'fierce-looking' remark. They look how they look. I don't set out to photograph only the 'fierce' moments. To me, they just look majestic. All birds of prey do.

They were all taken earlier this year during my annual White-tailed Sea Eagle Extravaganza photographic tour. We shoot both from a boat and a custom hide. My colleague did his doctorate on these magnificent raptors so we can usually get quite close to them, which is a real privilege.

Lastly, I like foreground blur. Some might even say that's my style. Where possible, I like to work at eye-level to my subjects. Personally I don't find the 'missing feet' an issue. It's the environment that they were in and to get this unique perspective, a little OOF snow helps make the subject stands out. But I appreciate that this may not be to everyone's taste and that's okay.

Thanks everyone for looking.

Two more...

That first one in the last pane Des - simply a WOW shot - fantastic light and the shooting angle works perfectly against the interesting BG. As a bit of housekeeping I'd clone out those few white spots near the bottom directly below the tail, but WOW!

These images are very special, I have no favourite as they are all amazing but the one shot that stood out to me is the one Mike pointed out as the light is stunning.

Very nice set. I think 4 and 6 are my favourites, very impressive wingspan in #6.

OCD kicking in again, Mike? :D Those are water droplets after grabbing the fish. Not a fan of cloning so you'll have to keep those fingernails trimmed! :p

very impressive, you obviously put the time and thought in to get these marvellous shots

Lovely images of a very impressive bird. The lighting in the first image of the second set is perfect.

Superb set. With reference to the snow/feet comments when I looked at the first one it wasn't immediately apparent it was snow but with the second snow photo it was and not having the feet in sight was fine.I'm sure it's because in the second shot you can see there's snow falling.

A great set of pictures, I like them all and personally like the pictures as they are snow flakes etc in situe.
