weekly Bernd's 52 of 2016 - week 52: Celebrate added and done

Like this Bernd, I nearly knocked a lady over the other day she was stood in the middle of the road play this game. I tapped the horn and got a load of abuse !
I am tempted to go out with my shotgun and blast them !

As today is not the right weather for taking serene photos on Clapham Common and I don't feel like venturing further afield, I'll have to do with a shoe horn...

34 Serene as a Cucumber
by Bernd, on Flickr

never heard of the phrase "serene as a cucumber"

me neither, but when I googled the definition of "serene" in search a rarely used meaning I might not be aware of, I found "cool" as a synonym. As in relaxed, not as in cold. And as an example "cool as a cucumber", so...

Cool as a cucumber was what I was thinking (y) nicely done, the plate and background work with the cucumber.

add yoghurt and mint and hey presto you're as serene as raita ... yummy and essential with vindaloo.

That's not a shoehorn, it's a cucumber!!
I guess, as veg go, it's laying there pretty serenely. :)

Never seen a cucumber looking quite so Serene as that one Bernd. I suppose cutting it in half whilst adding interest would make the cucumber look less serene huh!

Thats not a shoehorn its a cucumber :runaway:
never heard of the phrase "serene as a cucumber" :ROFLMAO:

Why not indeed :)

Well, I got it. (Okay, so I had googled "Serene" for inspiration too).

Thank you for your comments!

I've cut in half and arranged it in a wide variety of ways, but I wasn't happy with any of those shots... :(

I did two photos for this week's theme...

#1 is a long exposure shot of London Bridge and a few buildings to the east of it. I had wished for the sky to be more dramatic, but the weather wasn't bad enough for that.

35 Black and White: London Bridge

That's a super Shard shot, never seen one from quite that POV before ... were you in a riverboat? And of course sharp detail and smooth water works a treat.

And the selfie :runaway: ... lighting is great ... on your left side of hat with more light on your right side of face ... eerie.

Hi Bernd. No, I haven't seen a Shard shot from that angle either - lovely smooth water and ominous looking clouds - excellent detail. I prefer the selfies though - the rim lighting works a treat to my mind, picking out the edges of the hat and collar as it does against the dark bg. (If you ever feel inclined to move into the protection racket, this is the image to advertise your services hahaha).

Your take on the Shard is excellent IMHO, smooth water and cloud movement set a crisp, clean backdrop for crisp architecture. Good stuff! Your selfie is very well executed too, good light on your face and the rim of your hat.

Two good shots for b+w not shure on the horizon point for the first one but I can see why you left a lot of the smooth water in. The. low key portrait looks a little under exposed to me its a little flat, top marks for attempting it though

Two great shots for black and white. The smooth water and reflections work really well on the London shot, but the selfie is my fave - the rim lighting works well with just enough detail on your face. The only thing I'd change is the highlight on the end of your nose.

Sorry very behind on comments

Fauna - love the synchronized ducklings
Static - clever idea good set up.
Game - right on trend good composition
Serene - fun idea I got it as had googled serene.
Black and White - two good shots I like the london scene best.

Thank you David. I used the spiral staircase on the north eastern corner of London Bridge to get down to the Thames Path and walked just a few meters to find a place to put up my tripod without being a hindrance.

Thanks Carl. Not so sure about the protection racket, I might be a bit too weedy for that :bat:

Thank you Allan!

Prefer the London Bridge shot with the clam and smooth water. Good texture and details for the cloud.
Cheers Stan!

Thank you Emma! I haven't noticed the highlight, but now I do...

Love those two shots Bernd ...the London one is brilliant, it has an amazingly still, calm, feel to it, whereas most London shots are full of hustle and bustle.
Thanks Susie! I was lucky that there was very little boat traffic on the Thames.

The B&W Shard and river is spot on Bernd, the silkiness of the water just adds it for me
Cheers Chris!

The Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, just off Fleet Street, is the oldest pub in the City of London. Established as the sign says in 1667, the year after the Great Fire. However, it has been built on the smouldering ruins of another pub that has been on this site since 1538. Which makes it one of the oldest places where alcohol is sold for consumption on the premises in the capital.

Nice find and your composition is spot on, seems to be in a very narrow street so you have done well there, pity about the red van at the end of the alley obviously not your fault unless of course you own a red van and parked it there

Very nice shot Bernd.
If only the bright red van wasn't there.

It's a bit sad that nobody seems to like the Royal Mail van... I guess I could have just waited for it to move on. But Fleet Street was quite busy that morning

Maybe I'll clone it out...

What a beautiful old building Bernd. Nice find and a novel POV from that alleyway. Like the perspective with those lines running towards the "red" van. Excellent take.
