Wild Blue Shark - Penzance, Cornwall

That's a cool take, Lee!
…and good WB too. (y)

Cracking image, the composition and particularly the eye make it very, very good ... increasing the blacks might make it pop just a little more. :)

Wow! Everything about this is perfect - the suns rays really help make this and the colours are perfect! Were you in a cage, or just in the water?

Wow that is a shot and a half. Sending some love to you on Flickr. Great shot

Many thanks Simon, appreciate it!

@cambsno, this is the normal reaction from non divers about sharks, most sharks are scared of divers and its really hard to get close to them, fortunately these Blues are quite inquisitive and come and check you out. I wasnt in a cage, just snorkelling with them in 5-6m of visibility, I will not lie, I did scream a few times through my snorkel as they do creep up behind you and a couple came over my shoulder and nudged my strobes whilst I was concentrating on one in front of me which really freaked me out!

Lee, tis trip is on my bucket list, so jealousy is on red alert here!

Great capture and timing and perfect placement of the shark within the sunball rays. Superb eye contact and the 3/4 pose is nigh on perfect.

The only technical issue for me is I'd consider removing some of the cyan cast on the lower half of the shark. I did a rough edit to make the belly whiter. I left some of the cyan in there to try and keep a natural look. I didn't touch the upper half, maybe I should have removed a small amount.

From a gear perspective, how did you find the EM-1 coped with fast moving subjects? I got rid oy my Canon 7d setup a while back and keep looking at mirrorless, but it's a lot of money to drop if you get the kit wrong.

Clearly, it's nailed this one, but what was your keeper rate like?

Excellent shot

Mike

Hi Mike, thanks for the edit, it looks good, I will go back and investigate it.

Regarding EM1, I think its great, I used to have a D7000 but got fed up with the travelling with it and changed to this as it was smaller and I couldn't see any difference in quality, ok the tracking system is not as good, but I just believe that this technology is going to improve and I can develop with it. I'm not an expert but with a fisheye it works very well, in clear waters (Egypt) it focuses very fast, not so much with the macro, this hunts a bit without a focus light.

This setup coped fine with the blue sharks, they arent that fast moving really, so it was fine. I dived with sealions last year and did struggle a bit as they are fast, but it was the first time using the camera, so I think I would cope better now.

Where abouts are you based Mike, you are more than welcome to have a look at mine and see what you think, it may even be for sale soon as well :)

Cheers for that Lee, I briefly had the epl-1 years ago which out me off a bit but this sounds much better.

I'm up in Manchester so probably a bit far to come, but thanks for the offer of a play.

Mike
