Hi, can anyone recommend me a good lens for bird photography, is a 150-500mm good enough or will I need to pay a lot more and get a 150-600mm, also what lens is best,

Thanks in advance.

Both lens, Lee, share the same 150mm short end
but the long end of one is 20% longer then the 500.
The bigger difference, in price as well, will be the
apperture. The longer AND the brighter the lens the
more costly.

I prefer to go for the maximum I can get in any case
and, since it's for my work, money is hardly an issue.
The 100 mm extra may come to good use but the kind
of lens you're aiming at will not be too bright so not too
expensive. I would suggest the 150~600.

Both the Sigma and Tamron 150-600 are good value and suitable for bird photography but the Sigma 150-500 and 50-500 have been used by amateur bird photographers for many years so work to your budget :)

I used a Sigma 150-500 for a few years, nice lens and good value for money, with an awesome IS system. As regards focal length, no matter how long it is always too short! I'm sure the birds read the focal length on the front of the lens and move to an appropriate distance just to annoy us!

I had the sigma 150-500 on my d7100 and was a good lens. But did need to be half decent light to get the best results.
I now have the sigma 150-600 with the dock and it is a much better lens. I now use it on a d750 I do miss the reach thou
