The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

What was #4? Not the toy but the rest of it?
Looks like some form of ladder but on its side???
Its a seat Frank made out of old railway sleepers and then the metal work placed as handles to create 5 individual seats.

Ah. Thank you. Lucky they have placed it facing the setting sun!
Yes indeed.

What i need to do now is use and app to find the exact days next year when the sun will set exactly inside the last metal hoop and then revisit.

There is a facility to get the sun right in the middle. It's called Photoshop!

Other than that try Photographer's Ephemeris. The desk top version is free but you have to pay for the mobile version.

I have the app on my phone. Very handy for us landscape photographers (y)

Thanks Stuart. It was very rough and ready. The problem you have is that the sun is only in that position twice every year so your chances of getting that exact shot are slim.
Take a shot of the bench, and take a shot of the sunset with the sun low down and central. The lighting conditions will be the same in both shots. Then all you need to do is play around with layers and masks.

Here is one I prepared earlier. Sunset was way over to the right of the sculpture...in the beginning.

That is a very cool shot. Beautiful colour

It's looking like I'm picking up the 18 f2. Found them here in Bangkok for £166 new. Gotta be worth a punt at that price?

Wasn't Fuji. sorry. That was the last time I used my 5D3. After using the X-T1 for 3 months I got the Canon out, and realised how much better the Fooj was. There's a bit of processing gone on in there as well!!!

Unfortunately, moving the sun like that makes the shot look completely unnatural - the light falls all wrong! IF the sun was setting (or rising) through the sculptures, it would be lighting the insides relatively evenly rather than from the left (in Stuart's shot) or right (in Frank's). A bit more mingery flunkery to flip the right side of the sculpture in Stuart's shot and drop it over the real left side would take a little extra time and effort but might work... Rather harder to sort your peeled open can, Frank!

I have previously posted a colour version of this but to me at least, it looks far better as B&W

Yes, I regret selling mine it doesn't get the credit it deserves. When I look back my favourite setup was probably Fuji xt10 with the 18 and 35.

Well, remember I asked a couple of pages ago about whether to use the XT1 or 750D on holiday and you all said, the D750 because you've only adapted lenses ... well silly sod that I am I took the XT1 anyway, well in fairness I did get an 18-135 first and really enjoyed it.

I've not processed anything yet but loved the raw panos that I've got to play with - not a feature I've had so easily before and it worked much better than I expected.

Hopefully I'll have something to post soon, lots of boring landscapes I'm afraid, but I was in the lakes :)

There's a raw pano option? Dammit that would have saved me loads of time a couple of weeks back #fail

lol, sod off ;)

Okay, its a jpeg - everything else I did was raw, I just noticed now I've started editing - which at the moment I think I'm overdoing so will leave it for now.

Further to my recent shot with Danbo here is a close up composition involving the seat with the metal ringed handles.....and of course Danbo. Oh and a tiny bit of photoshop jiggery to take some breakwater wal out too.
Sunset manages to stay inside the the last handle with this composition too so a small bonus.

It might be a case of Chinese whispers, I was told by a small independent camera store that their Fuji rep said the £100 X-T2 offer has been extended until the end of September. I guess we'll on know.

I recently sold quite a few lenses and now I'm left with the 23 and 56 (55-200 currently up for sale). I did sell my 56 a few months ago as it didn't use it that much but there's something about it.

Its great for dog shots when he doesn,t move!!

Excuse the mass post. I have been taking pics using my new 60mm lens. Interesting change after few months of using a 27.

Great shots! I must use my 60mm more as it's a really versatile lens if you accommodate its slowish focus.

Thanks, Stephen. It doe have a lot of versatility and I also like the quality of the images it produces. But it does require a slower approach to picture taking, as you said. It's a great for testing my focussing skills, for sure.

Well, a page or two ago I promised a pics, well - have three versions :)

The worst thing is v1 isn't even the SOOC, that was much darker and washed out so a bit of work was needed, so I came up with this (BTW sorry for the large size, its a pano so needed it)

Then I threw it up for a crit both here and with some friends - nothing here (edit - just got one :)), but my mates gave a couple of suggestions.
  1. I found the two layers of cloud neither of which are level to be confusing to the eye and possibly the foreground to be a bit dark.
  2. Black and white that baby.
So, for the first version I brought up the foreground and lightened some of the darker clouds to remove that two cloud level feel.

Then for the B&W I took the the colour redo and plugged it onto Silver Efex Pro, applied dark sepia global with the addition of applying Acros film simulation then using a control point brought the central area back up - I did try pure B&W but the sepia worked better for me.

For me the B&W(ish) version works best but I really would have loved a colour version that popped enough.

Oh and if anything were to get me to buy the X-T2 it would be Acros after that (and if the continuous AF was usable)

B&W for me too I think, but I am a sucker for B&W. Have we seen any samples of Acros on the XT2 yet? I can see me liking it a lot too!

Great pooch pic!

Thanks, I was saving it for a month in the POTY comp last year, it was taken back in January 2015, but I forgot all about the comp and it's not been seen by anyone till now! Dexter can be very photogenic, but most of the time he's just a crazy idiot.

Cheers :D

I suspect its going to be the same Acros as on the X-Pro2, if it ain't broke and all that.

To be honest thats why I'm doing so many versions of this shot - I've not yet been through all the shots from the week away yet but when I saw that one and the lighting I thought I might actually have something I'd like to put on the wall that wasn't the kids.

Its a bit of an odd size though so I'd have to find somewhere where I wouldn't need to mess with it again just to make it fit their templates, and hopefully somewhere that doesn't cost the earth, but thats a battle for another day.

Try Trade Canvas Print - I think they do any size (up to a limit of course)
