I can't see this one being as popular as trains were last month but it's what came out of the bag. I guess we could revisit the list for next year.

Usual rules, i.e. there aren't any. Post your digging pictures here, you can post as many as you want and make constructive comments about what others post. ENJOY. Check out other "Takes on ..." threads in ideas and inspiration.

Heads up for @badlywornroy @Nostromo @RichardTaylor @gramps @Alan Clogwyn @Ladystrange @rpn @AshleyC @R0bb0 @tijuana taxi @Lez325 @Shirleyr @londonbackpackr @Nick Owen @Geoff Moore @stupar @d00d @artdemole @morfis @Dave in Pendle @LC2 @Sejanus Aelianus @Applemuncher @michael23 who all posted last month

Will have to ponder this a bit but in the meantime how about this dragline?

NIce start, I especially like the Godwit gramps.

I can see this is going to be tough and some lateral thinking may be required ?

OK ! it doesn't take a great leap of imagination to get from 'digging' to 'ploughing' does it ?

Great shots. Love the tones, and composition.

What a great start to digging, well done all.

I'll have to take my camera in the car Gwynedd Council are always having the welsh roads dug up, usually after a new road has been laid.:)

you'd need something like this to go......

It seems I have recently taken quite a few photos that fit the theme. Numerous quarries, excavators, soldiers digging a gun pit, soldiers digging a fire pit. This appealed to me because of the shirt draped over the handle. It was a very hot day and to my right almost all of the soldiers were missing bits of uniform.

@morfis, nice take with the shirt on the spade, suggests a break from hard work.

@badlywornroy another good take with the blackbird, we have one that follows us round the garden when we are digging

Digging by TheWub, on Flickr

I wanted a cave digging shot for this theme and came across this at the end of a show cave, it's not quite what I had in mind an hopefully I'll get a more typical cave dig at some point. The thing is that most of the UK's caves, of which there are thousands, have been found or significantly extended by digging.

The different colours of the modern equipment add an interesting twist. I'd been thinking the same sort of shot but over the past few weeks I've only been in clean and tidy tunnels.

Dogs should be an easy option for this challenge, tho I think this hole is a lost cause!

Brilliant.

Another good interpretation.

This week is likely to include some underground activity in old mines so a ghostly old shovel could still be possible!

That reminds me of the time of the time when they were digging for the foundations of the London Eye. My nephew was one of the many project managers there, one day when they had dug so deep they had found the hospital of the Florence Nightingale or one of the wards, and immediately they had to stop for the archaeologist to investigate. I think this one the London Eye but I might be wrong, he has worked else where.
One thing for certain when they are digging for a new building they have to dig 30 ft or more to get the roots out of Japanese Knotweed, he told me never buy a house with that weed in the garden it can interfer with the foundations of the house.

Ok, another attempt by me to link 'digging' to any remotely connected activity.

This time it is 'Mechanised Digging' . . . . . . . . e.g Ploughing

Did you know there are such things as 'Ploughing matches' ?

In fact there is a World Ploughing Contest every year. http://www.ploughmen.co.uk/events/world-ploughing-2016

A few pictures I took a few years ago when I still hadn't learned which end of a camera was the 'pointy bit'

@Nostromo - I think the mole photos are a really good take on the theme, kind of gets to the essence of digging for me.

Sorry, I keep remembering while I'm at work and then forgetting when I get home. I'll do it now
