Maybe a silly question but i will ask anyway,is there any little gadget that would tell me if i have had a little powercut through the night.
The reason for asking is before i start getting BT involved,my router HH5 A seems to disconnect & re-connect.
I did a chat thing online with BT & he sent me another router,HH5 A,this has not cured the problem.
So i thought if there was some little gadget to monitor any little spikes in my electric,i would try that first.o_O:D

I can't help with monitoring spikes or flucuations in the supply but checkng for a power cut is fairly easy.

If you have a microwave with a digital display and have set the clock on it, a power cut will cause the microwave to lose the time. On ours the display flashs "00:00", after a power cut. A clock radio will do the same.

It does depend on the product and some are more sophisticated than others. Clock radio often have an internal rechargeable backup battery so it remembers the time if there is a cut, so that would need checking first. I haven't seen a microwave with a backup to save the time.

Thanks guys,i don,t have a microwave or an electric clock, but yes i could pick up a little clock & try that.:):D

I find that our (BT fibre) connection drops from time-to-time, sometime after 12.00 at night for a few moments. It reconnects and doesn't cause us any particular difficulty. Could this be happening to you?

Anthony.

Well it does not stay up for more than a few days.:(

Most routers have a log you can access which can be useful to see what your connection has been up to.

My HH5 does it too. Don't worry about it unless it's impacting you directly, I.e. interrupts a recording via BT Vision, interrupts you during an on-line session, etc.

Yes you can,but if you don,t understand it then it,s no good to you.:D

What on a daily basis?:(

There's an app for that! Well there is on iOS anyway, it's called PowerAid, you start it up and have your phone or iPad charging. If the power goes off an alarm will sound, you can choose the volume or turn it down completely, in the morning you will see the screen flashing if there was a power cut.

I tried it because I use Hue bulbs throughout the house, they are great, but if there's a power cut they all come on bright white. I sleep through most things so I'm not aware until I get shouted at, I need to reset the lighting once the wifi connection is back up and running. It wasn't an issue previously but now we live in a rural location it happens a lot. I didn't like the alarm on the app so I stopped using it, but it does work. I'm back to being shouted at!

If you use Android I'd guess there is something similar.

Check that the Access Control is disabled. You'll need to access the HH admin functions for this. By default it's off. You can use this to limit when the unit accesses the internet. Stops the kids surfing at stupid times.

If your having power quality issues you can ask you local DNO. And they can advise if there has been a fault in you area or may fit a voltage recorder to see if the fault is local to you. The DNO are the people responsible for the electricity network and you can see who yours is by Googleing who is my DNO. Hope this helps.

Got my app up & running, cheers.

Realise you have you app now but Loki's suggestion made me think. You can check your DNO's website for power cuts by postcode.

Will have a look at that.:)

Well checked my app this morning & showing no problems, checked my router & it had re-connected at 8.40am,about same time as yesterday.:(

Not suggesting you've set it, but it may be enabled by default or some other reason. It will disable internet between certain times. and ifthe internet seems to go off and return at specific times on a regular basis it's something I would check. Just to eliminate

Yes i have looked at that & it is nothing like that, thanks anyway.:)
