Hi All,

Been away for a while... maybe years! Anyway I have recently made the move from Canon to Fuji and thought I would share some of my first images.

So first time out was with the camera club (Moore Camera Club) who were having a night at the Ice Hockey to watch Widnes Wild vs Coventry Blaze. I paired my shiny new Fuji X-T2 with my just as new 50-140 lens and went for it.

When I purchased this camera the main 'sacrifice' I was making in my head was that its not going to be as good as the Canon for sports, but I accepted that as I wanted something more 'portable'. However having only had one outing I am SUPER impressed with this camera, yes the ISO handling isn't as good as the 5Dmk3 but the focussing was rapid and the speed of the continuous shooting was lightning quick. I was rattling off sequences of 5/6 shots without knowing it...all of which were in focus! Goes without saying I was grinning like a Cheshire cat whilst chimping at my shots on the back of the camera.

The battery also lasted the whole game plus some, which was another worry put to bed.

Thanks for looking!

Hi I'm waiting for mine to arrive still I would be interested to know how you set up the camera for sports shooting.
Images look fab

Hi,

I let the camera do the work:

Aperture: f2.8
ISO: 3200 or below (ISO Auto Setting)
Auto Focus: AF C - Custom Setting Number 3 (Accelerating and Decelerating Subjects)
Shutter Speed: 250x

With hindsight I should have added +1 exposure compensation but forgot.

I did tinker with the settings but this is pretty much where I would start if I went back again.

Cheers

Some great action pics there.

Some very nice images [emoji106] I would love to be able to take some photos of ice hockey, but photography is not permitted at the Nottingham Ice Arena during Panthers games. Does anyone know if it's possible to apply for permission to shoot at venues like this? Would it be the team or the venue owners I would have to contact? Thanks in advance.

Wonder why they don't allow it. At Swindon it's the marketing manager that coordinates the media access. However they allow anyone to take pictures as long as there is no flash used.

It used to be that way at Nottingham too. I have noticed they have an official photographer present at most games, so I guess it's something to do with that maybe [emoji45]

At Widnes I just emailed the contact us page on the team website saying that I am an Amateur photographer looking to take some pics for my own benefit... could I come along and take some shots. They put me in touch with the resident photographer who was more than happy to show me the good places and tell me the players to watch. Did the same at Deeside dragons a few years ago and had a good response also. That said these are not top flight leagues.

If you just left it to the camera ...it sure knows what it is doing.

Don't go to the top flight games as most will knock you back for photography..... most ice hockey have teams in the lower divisions... Instead of the Nottingham panthers try the Nottingham Lions ... See heer http://eiha.co.uk/nihl/

Superb images in challenging conditions. I think you may have just sold me on the X-T2. With a faster lens I could probably do more in lower light as well. I was debating the Nikon route which I was a previous owner and fan of but I think the debate is over for me. Lighter and capable is the winner.
