Having visited Settle many times over the years, I was surprised that I hadn't heard of the picturesque Scalebar Force until I happened to come across some images on the internet. I'd never used ND filters before and was very grateful to another photographer who happened to be there when I visited who told me that a 20 second exposure would create some interesting swirls in the fallen leaves that were on the surface of the water:

Beautiful colour and clarity in these.
I'm a fan of milky-flow water, so these get a 'thumbs-up' from me.

Have been here myself but many years ago.Like them all especially the leaf swirl one.

Can't believe there aren't more comments, very nice set. Really like the second and last one's. Nice work.

Stunning colours. Never tried long exposures. These have inspired me...

An interesting and informative set. I live in Settle and these are on my "must visit" list. Your series inspires me to make it sooner rather than later.

Don't bother Stephen. I was there this morning and there are no leaves left in the water at all, and the ones lying on the banks have now lost their colour and are just dark dingy brown.
(Sorry I didn't call in, but I was there early. Then the weather was carp so I went to the kilns and came home!)

Thanks for the heads up. I'll wait till spring!

I worked in Settle many years ago, I had hear about Scalebar Force but never went, ,must say sorry I didn't
I like the set no 3 the most

Some nice autumn leaves and photographing waterfalls and being creative is fun so well done. The first vertical falls shot is probably the strongest composition.

I do have to say though the highlights are extremely muted throughout, look at the sky in the first one for example and also the water itself. I know you are trying to preserve detail but that water could be brighter and whiter IMO to look more realistic.

Ive added this to my list of places to visit next year, I really like these (1 and 5 being my favourites)

Thanks for your comments everyone. I'm glad that they may have encouraged some to try out long exposures like I have just done and others to visit this waterfall. I agree that I may have over-muted the highlights somewhat. That's possibly a tendency I have with my photos generally. I just put the slider where I thought best, but until someone points these things out it's sometimes difficult to see. I'll have a go at re-editing them as soon as I get chance and see if it improves matters. Thanks again.

I stay at my sisters in Gargrave a few times a year, using it as a base for photography trips. She had mentioned Scalebar Force amongst others, but we never visited. You mention the kilns, last trip I only spent a short time in the Hoffmann Kiln, it's awesome. So much to see and photograph during 1 week visits, never enough time. Will be back next year when there's some snow on the ground.

My favourites are photo's 2 and 3, the golden leaves add greatly to them.
