Fuji x100

Just been out walking the dog - it was very foggy and even at 11.00 the sun was struggling to get through and everything was dripping - not really photography weather

I just grabbed my X100s as it was the most easily portable of my X series cameras - this is a cropped JPEG

Liking that shot very much Andrew, well composed, bags of atmosphere, and good exposure.(y)

George.

I've been toying with buying a 23mm f2 for my XPro1 but I'm thinking a X100 would make more sense both economically and for the 'one lens' discipline.

I had an original X100 and sold it before the last big firmware release.

I think a XF23 on an XPro1 would be a great combo but mine is permanently fitted with a 10-24 and I prefer not to keep changing lenses. Hence my recent purchase of an X100s.

I have an X100 and an X-T2 + XF23 F1.4, the latter is the package that leaves the house the most, but it depends what you want, the X100 is more compact and discrete, but the X-T2+23 is simply devastating, IMO it's the sharpest prime that Fuji sell and is as sharp at F2 as the X100 is at any aperture setting, but sharpness isn't the be all and end all.

50% of my photos last year were with the XF23mm and I think that speaks volumes especially as for most of the year I had 4 Fuji bodies and 10 lenses!!!

It will be interesting to see if Fuji upgrade the X100 lens when the X200 is announced with the same sensor as the X-T2, expected announcement is Jan 19th

My TCL-X100 arrived today. I have only had the chance to test it indoors thanks to the weather but it appears to have exactly the same IQ as the lens on its own. I am also surprisingly pleased with the AF - it is slower than the standard lens but only very slightly and perfectly usable.

Now if only the weather would improve ........

I know it well - I lived in Ripley for 18 years and Burpham for another 6 - before moving to Hampshire
Small world! I lived in Merrow for 10 years and was a member of Guildford Photographic Club which met at Burpham village hall :) (Didn't have my Fuji then though...)

Hey, I also went to GPS in Burpham village hall - Monday nights if I remember correctly. We may have met!!

So I thought I was finished buying 'extras' for my X100T having got the wide and tele converters but I am now finding that I could do with a decent flash. I like the style of the EF-X20 but feel it may be a bit limiting without bounce/swivel so am considering other options. I will want to use the flash with my X-E2 as well.

I have read a few reviews on the Nissin i40 which seems to be well received and wondered whether anyone had tried this or indeed whether you have any other recommendations.

Personally I felt even the nissin i40 was a bit top heavy on the x100T (not as bad when using the tcl though) The small meike flash is worth a look, tilt & swivel and will even charge from the same USB connection as the x100t. Obviously not as powerful though so will very much depend on your use.

Thanks - I will have a look at that. I assume it is a dedicated Fuji flash with TTL?

just a heads up in case someone was not aware the new x-100f has been uncovered/released

wasn't the 1st one over a grand on release as well?
I believe the first original X100 was priced at £1000 when it was released back in 2011, I managed to get it for £900 though :D
It is a lot of money especially if you already own XF lenses, you could opt for the X-Pro 2 instead and make use of the lenses you have.
But it is smaller and has its appeal.

i think they are great ive had the original x100 and the x-pro1 in the past. i did find Fuji's colours a little on the toxic side but nothing that couldn't be dialled down a peg or two. how does the new sensor compare to the 1st x-100/x-pro1 sensor and firmware?

  • X100 - Original Bayer Sensor
  • X-Pro1/X-E1/X100S - X-Trans1
  • X-E2/X-T1/X-T10/X100T - X-Trans2
  • X-Pro2/X-T2/X-T20/X100F - X-Trans3

Personally I prefer the output of the X-Trans3 but many love the original X-Trans1

There is something special about the original X-100 Bayer sensor though. I still have an X100 even though I mainly use the X-T2 (with an X-E2 as a second body!!)

thank you, are the colours still as toxic (i know its personal view:p) or have they toned down from x-trans 1 and the original.

I don't know how you can describe the original X100 Bayer as toxic, unless you were permanently on the Velvia simulation
when I've had the option the film pre-sets were turned off or down, its been i while since I've owned it so cant remember settings.
I've always found fuji green to need dialling down, grass rendering in particular. maybe its my hang up from not liking the way there cheaper reversal film used to show grass/trees.
love there kit but not some of the default processing, i know that's against the grain perhaps i should try again at some point.
edit...
yep you were correct, i just checked my old fuji pics. it was the x-pro1 that did this not the x100.
