now available for pre-order.
Anybody getting one? :D

Will be interesting to see what import prices will be like. Colour me interested anyway
 
Wex are doing a £500 bonus on trade-in. The Xpro-1 is included!

If I win the lotto at the weekend I'll get the set and let you all know how I get on ;)

It sure does look a very nice package, I think Fujifilm made the right choice in bypassing a full-frame 35mm system.
Will be interesting to see what Fuji can do with their X-Trans sensors once they build them in-house as apposed to using Sony sensors. :)
 
Seems like the expected price ... similar to the 2 (?) year old Pentax 645z and coming in just under the Hasselblad X1D.

And while its a completely different beast ... its not hugely more expensive than a Nikon D5 which in some situations it might compete for people's attention.

Seen one in the flesh and the body isn't as big as I expected, but the lenses not surprisingly are huge.

Apart from the eight grand for body and lens I don't think its for me
 
They had a prototype body at the photography show over in Liverpool back in November. You couldn't handle it but it was there on display. Similar size to a canon 80D so smaller than a 7D or 5Div etc which given what it offers is fantastic.
My only gripe is the hassleblad is loads smaller!

I m not sure this camera will compete with the D5. People by the D5 for speed while this camera will probably be used for landscapes and studio work.

I do think that this was the right move by Fuji though.

I wasn't thinking in terms of specifications... but for things like weddings, studio work, portraits etc. there could be a crossover (or are top end Nikons and Canons already pushed out of these environments?)

(Of course it's no use for Weddings as it's not a Nikon or Cannon (sic))

I m not sure why wedding photographers would want to use a medium format camera to shoot weddings. Too slow, too expensive and will produce huge files that are not required for this type of genre

Maybe, mind you, the Fuji XT-2 is perfectly capable for wedding photography.
I guess it will indeed be more appealing to studio and commercial work where printing out billboards is a requirement etc.
 
Have to be honest, I'm certainly interested for my Studio Work. And I must admit I was expecting the Camera & Lenses to be much more expensive.(y)

Nope, MF sensors are notorious for their horrible high ISO noise handling. They are designed for studio work, with powerful strobes, to get the very best out of them. For photographers who charge a few grand for photo shoots really.
 
Seems ironic really, back before digital took off, a quality wedding photographer would be using medium format. I'm intrigued by this fuji offering, in the hope at least that it will push the prices of used phase one backs down so that I can get one for my mamiya.

Are they? I think you need to look at the 645z.

The 645Z has better high ISO noise handling than any FF DSLR!
 
Modern MF sensors now use CMOS sensors so the whole noise thing isnt so true. For me the gripe is flash sync max at 1/125, no leaf shutters (focal place like in DSLRs). Faffing around with ND's and/or HSS is not something I want to constantly have to do (I tend to shoot wide open). Many MF shooters shoot narrow apertures so maybe not such a problem for all. I'l stick to the H series Hasselblads for now until the X1D software is improved.

Interestingly the Fuji GFX50S can utilise the leaf shutter in their old H series lenses (with the Fuji adaptor).

Yes I read about that. Thats good, much like the X1D can do the same thing. I think the best thing about the Fuji is the contrast detection focussing which could potentially make it as fast as a DSLR to use. Then its a game changer as it brings MF capability to documentary shooting.

the current Phase, Hasselblad and Pentax MF cameras use the same 50MP sensors. They are all CMOS and pretty good for ISO - usable up to 6400. They won't match a Sony A7sII but then again, virtually nothing does.

DSLR's use phase detect AF which is what makes them fast. From the user review of the new Fuji posted near the start of the thread, the AF seems to be fast but it's the same tech as most other mirrorless (except the newer systems that use a combination of Contrast and Phase detect)
 
I'll be buying one.

In 15 years when they're affordable :(

My friend sold his as he couldn't get what he wanted. Any camera is good enough for any type of photography but you might have to adapt rather than just pickup one and go.

thats true i was going by the reviews which were saying the contrast detect AF is super quick (like the phase detect DSLRs)
 
Well I was lucky enough to get a brief chance to shoot with a GFX50s and 32-64 this weekend and its a cracking bit of kit to use and I was really impressed with the dynamic range and sheer amount of detail this thing captures!

Definitely feels like an XT2 on steroids and its a really nice bit of kit to use, ultimately I'm not totally convinced that for me the almost £8000 cost of the kit would be worth it despite the image quality, I feel that I'd be more likely to spend on a 50mp Canon if I really wanted the megapixels, its amazing being able to get a medium format camera and the 32-62 into a Billingham Hadley Pro and comfortably walk around it it though!

I think it's aimed at 2 types of people - professionals who already know how they will use the camera (in the sense that they have been looking for a mirrorless/more portable MF body for specific projects, rather than in the sense of pure technical ability!) and people who have won the lottery! I'm most likely to fall into the second category, so my chances of getting my hands on one a very very slim. Would still like one just for the fun of it though :)

I ordered one with the 32-64 this week after having the chance to try it last week, but I think I'm going to chicken out and cancel it... amazing bit of kit and I'd love to shoot landscapes and some city stuff in the summer when I'm in Germany with it but I'm just just not sure I can quite justify it despite the best image quality I've ever seen in a camera and lens combo... however if I want a close equivalent in resolution it really has to be the A7rii or 5DSR and neither of those come cheap either!!

So... this happened...

Snagged probably the first used GFX 50s on offer in the UK from Ffordes, saved a fortune on the New price for a GFX 50s, Grip, Spare Battery and 32-64, I really can't wait to get out and about this weekend with it, the quality blew me away when I tried on a few weeks ago!
