Most good compacts now will out-perform or equal the 350D.
.
Thanks PhilVery much depends on what you mean by 'out perform'
In reasonable light a 350d with a couple of my favourite lenses* will create beautiful images no compact could get close to.
Sigma 35mm Art, Canon 85mm 1.8, though the 17-55IS is quite special too.
But back to the OP, depending on usage and budget really, just 'upgrade' isn't really enough info for a recommendation.
ThanksI started with a 350D, still have it and it is quite capable of superb images, it's drawback is the high ISO performance, I upgraded to the 7D shortly after it came out, which I am still using. It is a lot heavier and also larger than the 350D. I suspect something like a 70D may suit better if size is the problem.
...but make sure the camera you have on you is the best one.The best camera for the job is the camera you have with you at the time!
Thanks
She has no real issues with the 350d but fancies something better newer etc.
In my mind Wifi and Video would be a good bonus but possibly out of budget.
I assume all our 350d lenses will fit the newer stuff?
This^If you do want to spend £200 upgrading, personally I'd look at a 100D or a 600D body if you are happy with the size/weight of the 350D. The 600D will get you video but no wifi. The 40D for about £100 is probably the best value upgrade, but beware that the body will be heavier and bulkier than the 350D, which may not be ideal if you are travelling.
Be careful with this. If you have EF-S lenses they will not fit full frame cameras such as the 5D MkI-MkIV.
They will fit any 400D/450D/XXD or 20D/30D/YYD or 7D body; any Canon crop sensor body basically.
Also if you go travelling make sure your daughter brings a spare camera. Could be your 350D or a good compact.

To second Phil's post what lenses do you have? Would buying them be a better investment? My 350d had problems on its sensor so I had to replace it but I would still be using today if not for that.Very much depends on what you mean by 'out perform'
