Nikon D750 & D780

lovely set i love the last two, not sure why its not something that would normally appeal, i think the colour cast of the last one works really well with the subject matter
Thank you, its not normally something i do either, it was something i just tried yesterday really.

May I ask where that is, looks a facinating location. Someone needs to sweep up too!

As for the photo, personally I find the dark part to the right side in the foreground distracting, have you tried cropping it out? Was the lighting simple on camera flash?

Had a quick play before dinner,

shame about the background, i think that may be a purchase in the near future.

I know the aperture is all wrong.;)

How did you have it set up? There's too much shadowing around the eyes in 1 imo.

Probably wrong then.

I had 2 ocf both to the sides, to be honest did have it set up for oscar (the dog) then max wanted to have a go, In camera it looked ok. I guess i may have to have more of a play and pay more attention to detail.

Has anyone had a problem with the little port where the USB cable plugs in?

Mine seems to have stopped working, I've tried 3 separate cables and also tried plugging into a different computer but nothing happens, I've only had it 2 weeks (from Camera Jungle), they have a 12 month warranty and will collect it but I'm worried it won't be back in time for my daughters 4th birthday party in 2 weeks time.

Nice shots but maybe the ocf needs a boost, next setting. (maybe) and I got no idea.

Not good, not heard of that issue before. Ask CJ how long their turnaround time is. How long have you had it, and was it working when you got it?

Sides are fine but preferably you want to use large soft boxes and get them in close so the light 'wraps around' more.

I've had it a fortnight and it was working, it seems odd that it suddenly stopped working, I could understand if it was intermittent at first if the port was getting wobbly but one day it worked and the next it didn't.

Yeah was just a quick play so yeah the power needs adjusting and the distances

Like he dog one, do you need a background? Can't you use that wall behind the young lad?

Yeah was thinking that after i posted, would be ok for head shots i guess but the skirting board could be a put off.

One has a 80cm sq gridded soft box and the other one is just a small on camera diffuser thingy.

What do you use it for? the usb plug?

What's their returns policy in regards to time to return for a refund? It might be quicker to do this and look for a 'new' one?

For transferring photos onto the laptop, if I do it by putting the memory card into the computer it only displays the photos as icons and not thumbnails of each photo and I like to pick and choose which pics to upload.

That's odd, I get thumbnails when I plug the SD card into my computers. Do you format the SD card in camera?

They do a 14 day no quibble refund or they can collect it and repair or replace, I'm a few days over the 14 day policy but I don't mind it being fixed.
I'm going to ring them on Monday and explain I need it back by 5th March for the party, it's just disappointing because I'd spent ages saving in the first place and this week was going to order a couple more lenses and now I'll have to wait to try them.

You shooting in jpeg or raw?

Also what version of Windows is it ?

Can you not select how to display the icons within Windows? (Large Icons, or whatever?)

What program do you use to import your pictures?

Is that a windows display/view settting using chrome book atm so can`t check.

Yes, I think I did it properly, I can't remember exactly how I did it though, something to do with pressing 2 buttons at the same time, I'll retry it, maybe I didn't do it correctly.

It's the one that automatically comes up called "photos", I've got Windows 10.
I'm not at all computer savvy, I only use it to store photos and run photoshop and don't know my way around it at all.

I'm going to try formatting it again and see what happens.

I'd say it's the "view" that you need to look at, top left (ish) choose large icons, that should do the trick.

I am on 10 and have my card set to open in a new window. Can select list or different size thumb nails.

Didn't know you could format cards that way tbh, I just use the format option from the menu. But, as already mentioned it's probably the windows viewer setting, although why this would be different between SD card and connecting the computer I don't know.

You should download Nikon NX2 from the Nikon UK website, it is free to Nikon users, you then plug the SD card into you computer, or plug the camera in with a USB lead and it should automatically download your images, it can be set up to only download new images so you don't get repeats. The program will file them for you in a basic file, or you can choose your own. Also if you take RAW images which are better than jpegs you can edit the image quite comprehensively and convert the files you want to jpeg and save them where ever you want. It is also included in the disc that comes with the camera.
If you prefer photo shop you can still load the images from NX2.
Have you tried a different lead into your computer, and also use a different USB port just rule out any computer or lead faults.

NX2 is a very slow clunky piece of software imo.

Because it's a different device and will end up with a different drive letter. Windows will remember the view setting per drive letter. Doesn't help if the USB camera socket is kaput though [emoji6]

Yes, but it works ! ... it's easy to use and it will almost certainly sort out at least one of Esther's dilemnas as it's designed specifically for Nikon by Nikon.
Esther, try running View NX-i, the latest version, free download here :

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Imaging-Software/ViewNX-i.html

When it has installed and running click on 'Transfer' at the top of the screen.
The program will find your camera or storage disk and display how many images there are on it.
Click on 'Start transfer'.
When the transfer has completed, depending on the screen view you choose, the images will open across the bottom of the screen as thumbnails and a large image above.
The images will also automatically transfer into your computer under 'Pictures > Nikon Transfer 2' and under 'Pictures > Image Backup'.
If you are shooting in NEF (RAW) you can also convert them to Jpegs in NX-i.

I would also recommend that you format your SD cards in camera before taking any photographs.

Hope this helps, I too only have a little more than beginner level knowledge of these things.

Nicely done Kingo! You have adapted to the 35mm nicely! I wish I could get on with the focal length, but just can't (no matter how many time I buy one lol).

Yeah its not a bad lens, I definitely shall try and get to use it more.

@snerkler ive got my big cat photography booked in for July at woburn. Hopefuly it wont be typical July weather and peeing down.
