Is it possible to update the Adobe RAW that came with my Photoshop Elements 10?

As my camera I have now produces RAW files not recognized by the Camera Raw which I have which is version 6.7, i have to convert the files using a DNG converter first then open them.

Hi Ian,

I don't believe it is possible to update the RAW converter without updating Elements. Version 15 now I think.

I think that's why people use Photoshop CC, £2:00 a week all in, updates constantly available.

DNG is the free alternative.

A friend of mine (not a mamber here) has just had the same problem. It seems Adobe do not have updates and PSE15 is the answer unless you want CC subscription. This will give you a lot more than PSE but will require a learning cycle.

A not so convenient solution might be to download Adobe's DNG Converter ( Windows | Mac ).

This is free.

You then use DNG Converter to convert your camera RAW files into Adobe's DNG raw files (no loss of quality etc). These DNGs should be able to be opened and worked on by Photoshop Elements.

Obviously this conversion is a bit tedious, but if you only convert the files that you actually want to process, then it shouldn't be too onerous.

(NB: the theory is sound, but I can't guarantee it'll work as I don't use Elements - but I have used this method in the dim and distant past with an elderly version of Photoshop.)

I use the DNG convertor. My LR5/PS6 won't update to recognise the new files from the XT-2 so they won't download.
I just run them through the convertor first. Didn't add much to my particular work flow but saves me having to upgrade.

Thanks for the suggestions will stick using the DNG converter for now. I don't use Photoshop enough yet to justify buying a new version or subscribing to the online version.

I wonder if you can merely go to a site that shows you how to download the latest version - Camera Raw 9.7, I think - and somehow align it with your PSE10?

You can update ACR here: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/5294-adobe-camera-raw.html
Elements 10 is only compatible up to Camera RAW 6.7

You could download Nikon's free Capture NX-D and open your files in that.
The files can then be processed (minimally) and saved as .tiff files, which I assume Elements will open without issues.

I have a Panasonic Lumix G7, will have a look to see if they do there own processing software.
