Film Photographer of the Year 2017 - Discussion

You don't have to wait until the month to do the photos. Any taken after 27th December are valid. The earlier you start on subsequent months the easier it is :)

Yep, I've already got a couple of possible entries for later in the year. They're probably as poor as this month's feeble attempt but at least I'm trying. :D

There's been some fantastic sunny and frosty winter days, perfect for a bit of architecture shooting.

Results are up in the January thread :) Not that they will be a surprise to anyone as they were public during voting, but it's good to see it it in table form.

...yeah I suppose you are right i.e. think now and ahead, it will sink in...........all I have for Jan left over shots is a crappy fenced off shot of a Roman well, looks like it's only 4ft deep as it was found in a nearby quarry and moved :D

Well I think Feb is going to be a difficult month because of the rotten weather...when we do get some nice days we would have to get thru' a roll of film and get it done by the 28th :grumpy: :(
Take a wonderful architectural shot of that beautiful wooden spiral staircase that I'm sure you have leading up from your magnificent entrance hall into the main lounge on the first floor of your mansion.:D

And don't be making out that you live in a hovel with no electricity or running water.....we know better, after all the money that you refuse to spend on decent camera gear ( Canon T90 indeed ) has to have gone somewhere and it sure aint the grandkids.....I know, I interrogated, oops, asked them!:D

Can someone edit the title so it makes it clear that is for photos taken on FILM only. It isn't apparently clear enough

You know what's annoying, is thinking of something to shoot for Feb and going back looking at old negs for ideas and you see one but you have to go and shoot the same shot again to comply with the rules....not complaining just saying. ;)

It gets you out Bri and above all keeps you out of our hair :exit::D:D

Six days left folks and two days could be sending the film off for dev and scanning.

Not taken anything yet but have a couple of ideas and will soup them at home! Weekend it'll be then.

Just scanned in a home-devved film and it's depressing :( one frame has a light leak (from starting to load the Rondinax in slightly too bright light) and 3/4 of the rest are covered in awful dust. Dried in the shower room with the door closed, too. My OH has been away for a few days, maybe there's something in this dusting lark... Added to all that, wondering what I was ON when I took them. Weird!

Just done some scanning this evening. Shouldn't have bothered. Couldn't find the rock blower all of the scans are filthy plus most have a line down them from muck on the calibration strip.

Got to say that although some aspects of home souping are frustrating, I think It's the whole process which I enjoy

Did plan to take some shots today as it's nice and sunny...but the neighbour's conifer has crashed on part of my garden squashing a lovely small apple tree  so I've got to do some clearing up and try to save the apple tree. Amazing that a conifer snapped (not uprooted) as they are tough trees and used to wind. H'mm could a horizontal tree be some sort of architecture o_O

Pity you don't live a bit closer, I'd have offered to bring a chainsaw round, we'd soon have soon shifted it then! There's a whole section of garden wall down near where I live, mind you, it's been leaning for years. If it stays dry at lunchtime I think I'll grab a shot or two of it, might come in handy for one of the challenges on here... if we ever have the subject 'fallen over garden walls'!

Thanks...Well I have one of those kits that comes with a strimmer, chainsaw and hedge cutter and am in the middle of cutting the branches away from the apple tree...just taking a break with tea and biscuits. (y)

Hope you are wearing the right protective clothing, chainsaws can't tell the difference between tree and leg! So be careful!

I can't believe it's almost the end of Feb and I have nothing, again. I might have to try for some shots in Bristol this weekend!

 with the kit, the chain saw bit is about 4ft away (y) Anyway it didn't take long and went out and finished the film up.....if Asda's film m\c is broken down I'll have to miss this month :(

I know the sort you mean, also known laughingly as 'death on a stick'! ;) Why not mail the film off first class quickly to Film-Dev, and with a bit of luck the scans will be downloadable before midnight on the 28th? Might be worth a go? :)

IIRC minimum order is £5 plus postage and my shots are not that good to spend much money.

I've got an order placed with AG to develop a roll of slide film that I shot on the Peaks meet (finally!) and a roll of C41 that's loaded in my HolSlo but un-shot so looking like I won't have time to get anything shot in time for comp so I'll be submitting a shot I took on my Fed-1 a few weeks ago.

The blue peter 'here's one I did earlier' is about the only way to get anything in on time I reckon.

It is with the weather the way it is at the moment! I went for a walk with the Canon EOS3 loaded with Ektar at lunchtime (late, after waiting for the sun to replace the rain) to grab a photo of that 'Doris damaged' wall I mentioned in post #182. I managed 2 shots and had just found a good angle, pressed the shutter button and there was a click but no wind-on. A quick check showed 'bc' flashing on the otherwise blank LCD screen. Walked back home, replaced the battery with one that wasn't flat, and by the time I'd got back to the scene of localised devastation the sun had gone in! Took 3 half-heated shots at 1/80th sec and went home in disgust! :grumpy:

Come on guys and gals, I need as much competition as possible so as to keep up my zero votes position.......I can't be seen to fail at that goal with just two entries:D

I'm planning to take some pics at the weekend and develop them by monday[emoji85]. Might have a think tonight as to what to take pics of!!

Don't worry, Asha, I'm going to look for an entry tomorrow and it'll be somewhere in Reading. Virtually guaranteed to make other architectural photos look better!

I'm metaphorically going there and buying the tshirt with my entry. Portraits I can barely do......other shots are much, much harder for me!

Well I'm open for bribery if you send me some soft French cheese o_O

Just had a reply from my mam after sending her an email attachment of my February entry.

She says if you lot don't give me pole position this month, she's gunna search y'all out :bat::bat:...Be warned! :D

Well popped down to Asda today and they are still doing film (y)...done in 30 mins.So will get something in for this month plus some other shots up using the Nikon F90x and Nikon 28-80 zoom and Vista...it's a sharp lens but had to expect some distortion. It was quite amusing as I'd forgotten how to use the F90x for manual exposure and even how to wind the film back , so stuck the lens on f5.6 with the "A" in the LCD display and relied on the camera, well all the shots came out correctly exposed (y)
