Hi All

New to the forum and as always looking for advice. I'm looking for an upgrade to the kit lenses I've had since the F days that i currently use on my D7000. My question is do I go for something like a Sigma 80-400 or the new Tamron? Should I stick with Nikon for the long term and which one? I would ideally like to future proof where possible but budget constraints of £700 means I have to be realistic. Is a fixed 2.8 aperture SO important to you or should I reign my ambitions in a bit? Compromise or not to compromise.

Thanks in advance if you've taken the time to read and reply.

Cheers
Tony

Hi I'm still trying to find out TBH. I like a good landscape as much as the next person but I'mleaning towards sports and wildlife

I use the Sigma 150-600C on my D7000 and get great results. You could probably get one for around £700, or less if you buy used.

Looks like great vfm. One review says its not weathersealed and has some zoom creep, Jessops say its sealed. My 17-50 sigma has a zoom lock on it. can you clear this up for me.

Thanks

Hi Tony, And welcome aboard TP. "Enjoy".

Hi there Tony :welcome: enjoy the forum

Hi Tony:welcome: I have been a member for a while now and pretty new to digital. My advice would be hold on to your money until you decide which way you want to go. Inspiration can be found in all the different forums, in my case it was Birds and Macro. I soon got hooked on birds and have purchased a 150-600 zoom this has opened up a whole new fascinating world.:) Into Macro too, can't wait for the bugs and flies. So Tony have a good look around before you spend and I wish you every success whichever way you go.(y)..............Final advice leave hot topics and out of focus alone its not photographical and full of political BS :(

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking forward to getting involved. I must admit I was looking for the best of all worlds but I am realistic .I'm keen on sport and nature so looking towards the 150-600 on my crop sensor, which would give a massive range, haven't comsidered macro yet, still finding my feet. Any recommendations lens wise?
