Explosion In Manchester

Live news just has a guy on saying that it was an explosion and that there are a number of fatalities and others injured

Just following this... 21,000 attending apparently. BBC reporting confirmed fatalities

It would seem the explosion happened as people were due to leave the arena

Good to see no ones jumping to conclusions on what's happened:

Tim Farron, Leader of the Liberal Democrats, has said:

This is a shocking and horrific attack targeting children and young people who were simply enjoying a concert.

My deepest sympathies are with the victims, and with families who have lost loved ones, as well as those desperately waiting for news.

I would like to pay tribute to the bravery and dedication of the emergency services.

This is an attack on innocent people and the nation is united both in its grief and its determination to stand up to this deplorable attack.

Fully expect Farage will start blaming open borders any time soon, we don't even know there has been an attack.

The most recent news reports state fatalities and that GMP have said they are treating it as a terrorist incident !!!! :(

My thoughts are with those affected by the deaths of loved ones as well as those injured.

19 dead over 50 injured, shocking :(

I couldn't sleep as I saw it unfolding through the night! You watch it on the news and it hits home!

Awful. i had a news alert about an emergency incident just before i went to bed - never expected to wake up to this. - does this venue attach directly to the train station? (in that was this person targeting the train station or the gig i wonder). Awful Awful Awful. When these things happen in your 'world', it seems to really hit harder (by that i mean - attacking gig goers, the club in orlando etc - not saying anyone is of more worth than others obviously).

terrible.

It does seem to link to the station but it seems the attack happened within the foyer of the arena rather than station. Its horrendous, can only hope this isn't a move toward a Paris type campaign by a larger cell, it seems very unclear so far if this was a lone wolf or something more organised.

Horrific and cowardly act. Let's hope if there is anyone else involved they are tracked down swiftly.

Yeah it does. The entrance to the venue is 'above' the train station, and it was the foyer style entrance where it happened.
The rail station and metrolink stops next to it were both closed off.

My children were there last night. After getting a phone call from my daughter, they had gotten out of the MEN but were lost.
Luckily I track all Apple devices in our Family and managed to guide them to somewhere safe where we managed to get close enough to town to meet them and get them out.
They're both incredibly shaken up, but very very lucky.
At least 81 people weren't so lucky. 22 of them seriously so.

Seeing 3 separate appeals on my facebook from parents whose daughters are still missing following this attack really brings the awfulness of this situation home. My thoughts are with all those affected.
Also greatest respect to police and ambulance crews who walk into the site when everyone else is evacuating. Respect.

Just saw evacuation of Arndale centre in Manchester on TV News. Looked very calm, no panic. Well done Manchester.

I'm glad to hear your daughters are safe.

This sort of thing makes me so angry and brings me to the verge of tears

Injuring or Killing a child is about as cowardly as it gets.

We need to wait until more facts are known before forming opinions on who the person or persons might have been.

After every tragedy like this, you always ask how we can make sure it never happens again. Unfortunately I don't think we can.

Latest from the BBC seems it was a "Home grown" suicide bomber.
That was "on the radar"
1 other arrest has been made and other persons are being investigated..

What a bunch of cowards attacking children. !

Give you kids a big hug mate and tell them you love them.

Apparently ISIS have claimed the attack and claim it was a planted bomb but they would claim anything if they could.

Makes you wonder how many other home grown terrorists there are out there.

I genuinely don't know what we can do to prevent it.

I had tears in my eyes watching the news this morning. How can people carry out such evil acts?

Now we learn a girl of only 8 years old was one of the victims.

Marcel I'm glad your daughters are ok.

The news told of stories of taxi drivers offering free lifts, people offering rooms/food etc. Things like that help show how we can come together, stand as one, in face of evil.

I am sure lots of us wonder about that (plus their sympathisers) and about foreign terrorists who slip in and out of this country undetected.

I was following your FB posts last night, so knew about your kids, just very glad that they're both physically OK and hope that it doesn't scar them emotionally - I'm sure you already know this, but theyr'e going to need a lot of support, even old people like myself, who have seen and done a lot, get affected, youngsters much more so.

Missus just heard, her Niece's friend and brother were there. We did not know them, but we feel so terribly sad and helpless. Their family is devastated.

Bloody hell Marcel!
I didn't hear the news until this morning but I'm very relieved to hear that they got out OK.
You should be extremely proud of them both for staying together in all the chaos and getting themselves somewhere safe.
I'm sure there will be plenty of sleeplness nights to come, but I know that you'll help them through it.

Really sorry to hear that John. I know you didn't know them, but these things hit so much harder when there's a personal connection to someone you know.

Targeting a time and place where there were going to be children and teenagers in attendance is taking the cowardice to a whole new low.
And I'm also disgusted that there are some people out there amidst all the chaos and loss making up false 'missing' reports to get their 15 minutes of fame.

The poor girl was only fifteen, her brother is still in intensive care.
