Godox AD360 advice (?)

Ok, I confess to know not very much regards flash photography, I'm a Fuji X-T1/XT2 shooter, I do own a Yongnuo 560 Mk3 flash and trigger, but been thinking about buying a more versatile flash head etc, and wondering if the likes of the Godox AD360 could/can accept a soft box for outdoor portraits etc...? Or any other advice would be really helpful. Cheers.

My experience regards off-camera flash is extremely limited. A fellow Fuji shooter shoots with a Godox AD360 and swears by them.

Any advice most welcome. Thank you.

I have a lencarta atom 180, and have one of these which allows the use of a bowens fit softbox.

Thanks Robert.

Are Lencarta kinda the same or maybe better quality than Godox(?), more versatile regarding attachments and flash power outputs etc...?

I think they're very similar. I have a small godox softbox which i also use. Same as this

The only difference is the brand name on it . I bought the Calumet version the gf400 and have found it to be a fantastic bit of kit , I use it with its reflector head , beauty dish and soft box

If you are not yet comfortable with the lights you have save your money and build experience with them. That experience will inform and in some ways dictate what you buy later.

Definitely get an AD360 and the godox S-bracket. It is very sturdy, will carry big modifiers, comes with Bowens or Elinchome mount, will not put strain on your flash and is compatible with speedlights as well. The one pictured earlier looks somewhat flimsy to me.

Having speedlights and lacking experience you could also start with the bracket(s), lightstand(s) a (couple of) softboxe(s) 60-90cm, 120cm max.

I use XT2/XPRO2 and have a couple of the AD360 units as well.

I use them with the 45cm softbox

also with a 120cm Octobox
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0105U0R0W/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and the 30cm Beauty Dish

as well as a number of other modifiers etc. I've tended to stick to the specific accessories for this line and they work well.

On the positive side, they are powerful (see negatives too!), very quick to cycle (especially with the Y shaped power connector), the FT16 transmitter system is simple and reliable and relatively small for the power.

On the negative, they can be too powerful, especially if you like to shoot wide open. Even at 1/128 power they can be too much if space is limited.

Overall, I'm very happy. I previously used the Yongnuo triggers on the Canon, and while I still have those and a couple of flashes, I like the ability to control the Godox settings from the transmitter simply and easily.
Generally the system does what I want, when I want it and has the power and flexibility to fit in around me and the Fuji system.

I chose it as a compromise between speedlights and studio heads - mainly on price point to be honest. I wanted the cycle time & power packs that it gives above and beyond a speedlight.

Had the AD200 been out, when I purchased the second unit, I might have bought that for the slightly lower power on the second head just for the variety.

The last one I was about 200 yards away so the trigger works form a great distance! <snip images>

Fantastic images Stuart (y)

Inspirational! I love to see flash and creative techniques being used like this :)

Oh where? Link? Link! :D

Thanks for the replies, appreciated. I may be swaying towards the Godox AD200 due to its portability and versatility.

Does anyone know best place to buy Godox from please (?) Or if anyone may have a AD200 for sale please let me know, thànks.

:)

In the UK it seems Lencarta is the place to buy (rebranded) Godox... if for no other reason the warranty support/service they provide (plus, from all reports they are a great company to deal with).

The main thing to consider Pete is do you need the extra power over your Yongnuo? The bracket I linked to earlier can be used with your Yongnuo to allow mounting of any S fit modifiers. Might be worth going that route first and getting to grips with what you have before replacing it.

Having both a couple of TT685 and a AD360 I'd say they are great companions. My speedlights live in the camera bag always ready for use and the AD360 have its own "lighting bag" big is great for power barebulb design and use in big modifiers.

Essential Photo (Pixapro) have got an excellent sale on at the moment, with some massive savings on some of their portable flash, they give you a 2 year warranty, or you could buy from Lencarta and pay a bit more, but you have the peace of mind of a 3 year warranty + good advice from Garry Edwards on here, the choice is yours :)

Got mine from Amazon, love the little thing!

Ah that's a shame then, Amazon are quite good themselves, just if anything happens in a years time you could be stuffed, the AD200 in Essential is on offer at £300 at the moment

I took that risk knowingly. I'm really not that fussed. It doesn't get used a great deal. And £300 is about 20% more than I paid. You pays your moneys, you take your choice. Wasn't stocked by Essential when I ordered.

Not many people know this but if the deal is 'Fulfilled by Amazon' then Amazon still stand by the sale. What I mean by that is if it goes wrong within x months then a simple call to Amazon and they'll sort it. A couple of years ago I bought two Yongnuo 560's which both went within a month of each other. The seller told me to ship it (at my cost) to China, they'd repair it then I could pay to have it shipped back. One call to Amazon and they told me to send it to them and refunded me as soon as they got it. Despite the fact they were over six months old.

I recently told another guy on a Facebook group who had a similar issue with his Godox AD600. Amazon refunded him too.

That being said, UK sellers like Essential Photo do offer a two year warranty on kit and of course UK based support. So if support/warranty is important to you then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. However, my point is that things are not diabolical with Amazon. It's also a big reason I run away from eBay sellers nowadays.
