So, for some stupid reason I thought it would be a good idea to have a website for myself. Not sure why though

Anyway, if you fancy having a gleg then check out

www.davidraynhamphotography.co.uk

and read the bio, the blogs and browse the gallery.

Let me know what you think, I would be super grateful. Please keep in mind it's brand new and I've never done this stuff before so go easy on me. I'm open to suggestions for any additions and improvements.

Thankya kindly
David.

Clean, light, inviting and friendly… (y)

and I am not trying to go easy on you big guy!

Looks nice, not too graphic heavy. The Glencoe shots are superb and I like the write-ups.

One minor niggle. When does it need to launch a new tab when you click "Come on in"?
This is in the source code: "...target="_blank">Come On In...</a></li>"
Get rid of the Target, then it'll load in the same tab.

Thanks Alastair. I hadn't noticed that it does that so I will try and sort that tonight. (y)

David - for maximum credibility, you need a proofreader. For instance, 'que' should be spelt queue, 'like minded' needs a hyphen, etc. You can do this yourself, but another person may have a more dispassionate eye ...

Good-looking stuff!

Some wonderful shots there [emoji3]

Can I ask what you created the site with? I'm looking at it on my phone and it works great [emoji2]

In a previous existence I was much involved in web design. Its all changed now but the principles scripts and coding are much the same.
Enough of that guff and back to the site! Its clean, crisp, slick and well put together. There are no frilly bits that add no value (a pet hate). It all flows really well. The text its clear and set nicely on the white BG.
Nice Job Dave.
Just one question, when you arrive at the "Adventure" page then subsequently hit a link to "Waste Water" for example when the page presents just below the "Blog" graphic in green is the text Waste Water x, Is this intentional or a bug in the code?

All the Steves!

Brilliant, mate, up to your usual high standard. (y)

Thanks mate. Not sure I have a standard though, especially a high one.

Thanks Steve. The only way I could find to link each specific blog was to link a tag that I had listed for the blog. Not sure if I can stop this from showing?

I have used Squarespace for a few websites now (none photography related) and it is very simple to use with great results. Reasonable pricing too.

I agree, I found it really easy for he most of it.

Great site ,,, easy to navigate

What made you choose Squarespace ?

I don't know much about square space tbh, but I might be able to give you a little tip here what I used to use. If you are using it purely as a link to hook up the pages. Leave the coding as it is but change the text colour on the link from green to white. Then although the link is present it doesn't 'present' on the page. (like a hidden link if you like to think of it that way).
Cheers

Hiya mate. In all honesty, Thomas Heaton. He didn't make me choose them but some of his recent videos have been sponsored by them so it led me to check them out. I was quite impressed with the simplicity of their templates and seemingly easy D.I.Y. approach. He also offered a 10% discount code although they do actually give you a code on their website anyway.

I did think of this, but then it would change the text under each blog. I don't suppose this is an issue as the pics are linked anyway so the writing doesn't need to be I guess. I will give it some attention over the b/h weekend. Many thanks.

Excellent site with some great content (the Glencoe post is first class in both dialogue and images[emoji106]).
Could I ask about pricing, what sort of package did you go for?

Andy

Thanks very much @Keebsuk

I went for their basic package but I can upgrade to their next one up if I wish and vice versa if you choose the bigger package first off. It cost me £125 for the year. There are much cheaper options available but I haven't had to mess around with coding etc, it's a simple system that just lets you write in a text box, add a pic where you want, change fonts and colours, really really simple which is good for me as I'm a bit dim. :D You can pay per month also but it's cheaper to buy the year subscription. I bought my domain name from TSO host and just linked it to the SS site. You do get the domain name included from SS if you buy the year but they didn't have .co.uk which I wanted.

That's not a bad price at all, I think I pay a similar amount with Zenfolio.

Do Squarespace allow you to use Adware do you know?

Andy

There are no frilly bits that add no value (a pet hate).

It might just be mobile as that's the only way I've looked so far, but I tapped the link and the homepage exists for no other reason than for me to tap a link to see anything of value. I'd call that frilly.

It's a pet peeve of mine. I fell into that trap when I first created my Squarespace site, I asked for honest feedback from clients and it was the first and only thing they all mentioned.

Anyhow, that aside I agree with the general consensus, great content and writing and very nicely laid out.

Ive had my domain name .photography for couple of years, and only getting to do something now with it lol ,,,, seeing your website has made me get my finger out.

I meant AdSense and thanks, not to worry.[emoji16]

Still none the wiser mate

Nice and simple, works well.

Thanks @antc

Thanks Chris. Glad you consider my landing page frilly :D
