Is anyone else finding it too hot to sleep? I'm on my second night of sleeping starkers on top of my bed sheets, struggling to get to sleep and then staying asleep. It must have been after midnight before I fell asleep and was awake by 4am.
Any hints or tips as my eyes are like p***holes in the snow!!!

Welcome to my world, 4 hours average, 6 on a good night. orrible isn't it.

Good airflow through the house works. Amazing sky at 5am this morning when the thunderstorm hit just at sunrise, bright yellow

A fan on my feet does the trick for me when it is too hot.

I haven't quite got to that stage yet, Matt, but close.

Found using a fan in the bedroom helps a lot when it gets really bad.

Missus doesn't like a fan:(
Says it's too noisy - mind with me and the dog snoring normally she wouldn't hear it:D
She went up to Scotland yesterday so it was me and the dog last night, he was like a fart in a colinder kept mooching about.

Yep it was yellow here as well... looked like it was going to thunder so took dog out at 5.30... just finishing then it rained for 10 mins now it's a beautiful blue sky again.

We have a fan in the bedroom that we switch on an hour before we go to bed
Fans cool you by evaporating your sweat, they do nothing for the ambient room temperature (except maybe raise it slightly due to heat from the motor).
My advice is to save your hour of electricity; what you're trying to do needs an air con, not a fan. hot.gif

I am always warm in bed even in winter i have a 7.5 tog duvet
i just kip on top of bed with a cotton sheet

I sleep naked on top of the duvet all year round. If it gets too hot, the duvet goes on the floor.

I normally don't tolerate hot weather too well. Before going to bed, I have a shower and gradually drop the temp to help cool me down.

I find leaving the fan on in one position rather than oscillating helps.

10 years ago we bought the equivalent of item below for all of our bedrooms. I think we've replaced all but one over the years as they've failed, but they do get run a lot. They are all noisy, but it's the kind of white noise that sends you to sleep rather than keeps you awake - just bear with it for the first night or so.

Trouble is we can't sleep without them running now!

were having air conditioning installed in the bedroom in a couple of weeks, Our house gets the sun on three walls during the day and gets baking hot during sunny weather. I bought one of the portable air conditioners a few years ago and theyre quite good apart from having to have the window open to run the big pipe outside, and the noise of course. This is the one the guy who's fitting it recomended http://www.fujitsu-general.com/uk/products/split/wall/asyg07lmca.html
for the OP try taking a couple of hot water bottles to bed filled with cold water.

In hospital bed (multiple incisional hernia repair) all this week and trying to get a decent nights sleep has been hellish with the heat, weird dreams from the painkillers and morphine are bad enough, now I've gotten a bout of extreme farting, not going down well in the ward[emoji34][emoji3]

I find the most natural way is to sleep naked on a camp bed in the garden ,passers by commenting tell me when it's wake up time :exit::exit::exit:

I got a similar pr table aircon about 5 years ago. Best money I've spent to keep cool. I can even sleep through the rediculous noise now.

I never have any trouble sleeping when it's warm.

We have air con in the rear bedrooms, but TBH I find it a bit too noisy and irritating to sleep through.

I've found these ice bags (not necessarily those specific ones) are a cheap and really effective alternative.
I put a couple on the bed about half an hour before I go to bed and if it's really hot I'll sleep with one by my feet.

I sleep with a fan all year round. I started years ago one hot summer then got so use to the noise I can not sleep without the noise now.

It was the storm that kept us awake last night.

God, yes...what a corker it was!!

On the sleep thing, I have a fan on all the time whilst sleeping in summer, just on me.
Got the ceiling fans in several rooms, but when it's really warm, they're next to useless.

Yes, that thunderstorm the other night here at Folkestone was truly memorable. in all my 40 years of being into meteorology, I have never experienced an electrical storm as strong as that with 80 to 100 flashing per minute for nearly an hour.

It also did an excellent job in shifting the humidity as well as ushering in a more standard westerly airflow and as a result I had a decent night's sleep last night. Like others has said in here, I, too, struggle with humid nights where I often have the duvet thrown to one side but still want to keep a tiny part of my body, such as a knee or toe, covered for that bit of assurance knowing the duvet will still be close to hand if it needs be.

I lived in Hong Kong for several years, and I've spent most of my adult life in South Africa. Hot/warm nights don't bother me but I dislike the long, light, nights in the UK summer. Nights should be dark, from around 7.30 - 8.00pm at the latest!

FWIW, my wife lives in SW Scotland and uses a winter weight duvet year round...

I lived in Hong Kong for 2½ years, my Mum is South African born and bred, I currently live in West Lothian and use a summer duvet all year round

Quite a few similarities! My mother was SA born and bred too, which is how we came to live there. We also lived in West Lothian for a couple of years, back in the 70s. Livingston and Mid Calder. You?

I was camping out in Canterbury with my wife and 18 month old that night. There were a few brown pants moments!
