This was rather nightmarish!

I got this rare apparition in front of my lens and I hated it. Why?
Cause for some of you it seem like it landed on your nose and I
get it at 221,83 m away.

221,83 m? Yes, metered with my calibrated laser distance meter.

This thing was so small in the view finder that the focus point was
quite larger than it! This is a crop @ 100% of a 36,3 MP frame cap-
tured with a 600 mm ƒ4 ( this could be 5% of the original image or
possibly 18 times the size of your viewing screen!).

What is the trick to have this thing land say at 15 or 20 meters? :D

Give it a perch (not the fish! :D ).
 
Your'e lucky, I've only ever see them flying at what seems 60 mph, and 100m away too :mad:

No need to feed as quoted from @regen ...just do some observing of the bird ,get a portable hide of some description ,if you can leave the hide in situ and watch from a distance and see if you can spot were the bird is landing ,find a perch of your choice stick in and see if the bird lands then get in your hide and fire away ...
