The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Looked at them all and the PD sling and clutch seem best, the BR carabiner at the bottom adds bulk and scratches.
Yes the Peak Design clutch is my preference but I seem to have a habit of going between this and the neck strap dependant on mood or assignment, the Black Rapid strap I have is the dual-strap for when I used to have two bodies.

Looks just like Fuji stuff.

Yes sure does, which is great as I found with previous Sony files you had to work them a little harder to get that Fuji look.
It seems Sony has tweaked the colour / AWB on the A9 compared to the A7RII.

Sony still seems to have that green/yellow bias via awb but it's better than it was with the original a7. From what ive seen the a9 colour is nice, not quite matching Nikon (for my taste) but maybe better than Canon (magenta bias) and definitely better than it used to be.

Yeah import prices seem to have dropped a little now.
I've never really considered importing as my local camera store have looked after me sufficiently to stick with them, however they couldn't do much with Fuji gear as they are under strict instructions not to offer any discounts.

Yea my local ie park cameras have done wonders so i tend to stick with them but damm 1.9k!!

I went out with my A7 today and there's a speck in my VF :( Just left and up a bit from centre :( I think it's behind the diopter as if I adjust it the speck goes out of focus. It's just like looking through a SLR/DSRL now but at least there's just the one spot.

I've blown all around with a Rocket to no effect.

I'm gutted... Anyone else had this?

Not great, might be worth investigating how much it would cost to service?
I was so close to getting another A7 via Amazon PrimeDay but in the end got the RX100 III.

Does it appear on your images?

No. It's deffo something on/in the EVF.

I tried wiping the EVF with a cloth while we were out (pointless really as thinking about it it couldn't have been external) and when we got home I swapped lenses and had a look at the sensor which turned out to be clean at f22. At first I thought it might be a pixel issue so I moved the clock forward a couple of months to make it do a remap (this has worked with hot pixels in the EVF) but nothing changed and looking at it it looks an irregular shape so I can only assume something has worked its way in there or fallen off and in... whatever. I tried taking the five retaining screws out but once the external piece had been removed I couldn't really see how to get it (the EVF) apart which was probably just as well.

I've not seen this before with any other EVF equipped camera but I suppose it can happen, and did. Just as with DSLR's I'd rather any contamination was on the sensor where it can be easily dealt with.

I may see if I can get a quote for cleaning.

They quoted him for replacing the EVF and that make sense as I think the EVF is a sealed unit, or at least I couldn't see how to take it apart. I'll probably give a repair centre a ring but I don't fancy paying a couple of hundred + for a new EVF... but then again I obsess about stuff like this and it'll annoy me every time I use the camera :(

Bugger.

I sense the perfect reason for you to grab a A9... You can't resist it now. Add it to your basket

A couple of ££ hundred + .... eeek, personally I would take advantage of a trade-in bonus and the added Sony cash back on a Sony A7II or wait for the A7III.

For example Harrison's are doing the Sony A7II with a £150 trade-in bonus at the moment and you'd also get £100 cash back from Sony.
Works out to:-

Sony A7II £1199
- £150 trade-in bonus
- £100
- whatever they value your A7 at, surely it's got to be worth £250 trade-in?
So less than £699 to move to the A7II approx or wait for the A7III.

Oooh good deal but I can't see any real advantage in the A7II other than it being speck free :D so maybe I'll have to live with the speck until the A7III has been out a while and some deals appear. If the III had a joystick and a bigger battery it could be tempting.

I've tried whacking the camera against my hand but whatever the speck is it's stuck fast. Maybe Sony should build a shake cleaning cycle into the EVF's :D

A7 + 35mm f2.8 100% crop of the cop dog display team.

The guy next to me had a massive Canon DSLR, grip and loooooong white lens with lens hood. I had my little camera and room in the man bag for yogurt fruit bars, muesli bars and drinks :D

He's basically saying it will be the cost of the repair Vs getting a new one

When it comes to lenses. The Sony lenses are just as big. Cant best physics. But Sony does have small lenses and a smaller camera. I can instantly turn my a9 to a full blown dslr size camera or turn it into almost a point and shoot camera

But it'll still be a lot more money (than a repair) to buy a MK2 camera with little if any benefit to me.

AFAIK the MKII will offer the same image quality. Maybe the biggest difference to me would be the position of the shutter button but I'm fine with the layout of the MK1. I just can't see enough in the MK2 to tempt me to go for one. Am I missing something?

Just waiting for a train after my brothers stag do last night.

We did a party boat on the Thames. Our group were the only guys on the boat, the rest were hen parties so it was quite the night. Anyway, by the time we got on the boat the rain had stopped and London at dusk looked so beautiful. I did keep thinking I'd love to have my camera and tripod.

Looking at the calm of the river and then into the chaos on the deck was quite a contrast.

No Alan, they just want to spend your money for you ;)

I wouldn't take a gripped DSLR and very large lens on a day out with the Mrs or anyone else. All I wanted was a nice picture or two to remember the day by and a few to send to family and friends and the A7 + 35mm was fine for that :D OK I was never going to fill the frame with a snarling police dog but a heavy crop at 2000/1300 pixels wide (or whatever) is fine for screen viewing on a tablet or smart phone. Also I didn't feel so self conscious snapping away in the various tents (we were at an agricultural show) as I would with a 70-200mm f2.8 or whatever it was. Actually there wasn't really room to wield something like that inside the tents.

This to me is one of the advantages of the A7 system, you can have quality compact gear that'll get you really nice image quality when that's your aim and can also be used for the sort of snaps you might take on a day out.

I always kept my grip on my d750. It's a human hangup about cameras. Every time dick and harry are taking selfies. Get someone who's spent a few k on a camera and they feel self conscious about lugging it around.
Be the guy with the camera own it! People love having their photos taken so do police dogs it's a fact Google do police dogs like their photos taken. I digress
