The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I always kept my grip on my d750. It's a human hangup about cameras. Every time dick and harry are taking selfies. Get someone who's spent a few k on a camera and they feel self conscious about lugging it around.
Be the guy with the camera own it! People love having their photos taken so do police dogs it's a fact Google do police dogs like their photos taken. I digress

In a perfect world we'd all be open minded and liberal and let everyone do their own thing but sadly snapping with a smartphone seems ok but carrying a camera can mean being called a P**** or a perv especially when I'm alone. I've found the worst are middle aged women who tend to glare and comment and teenage to twenty something boys who can act intimidatingly and aggressively. I don't intimidate easily and I can spout Anglo Saxon better than most but I'd rather avoid having to and having more discrete camera gear seems to help. Maybe I don't live in the best of places, the attention / perv factor is though one of the reasons I moved away from DSLR's.

At the show yesterday I just wouldn't have wanted to be bothered carrying such bulky gear.

I live to the ideals and I used to carry around photography cards if anyone asks about it. They can always look themselves. Oddly k feel more self conscious taking photos of family members

If someone is up to no good surely they'd choose a more subtle gear than a huge white eye-sore of a lens

I was just thinking about the last time I got any hassle... I was stood under a tree and very obviously pointing the camera up shooting the buds and some teenage/twenty somethings were passing and one rather aggressively asked me why I'd just taken a picture of him. He got a terse reply and on they went and it wasn't too bad but some days I just feel like giving up and going home. If the Mrs is with me all they look at is her :D

The most hassle I got was when I was in London with Dan Cook and I took a photo of someones dog and they went mental. Was very odd. Needless to say the image is on Flickr lol

Yup. So why is it the guy with the camera who gets the abuse when teenagers with smartphone are far more likely to be bullying little internet troll bast**ds. The world aint fair.

I've found dogs to be a great excuse to interact with people especially in the countryside. I usually don't bother taking pictures of them, the people that is, as no matter how good the pictures other people take of strangers are of thought of taking pictures of random strangers always seem a bit pointless to me. I have some good chats with dog walkers though.

I often get hassled by security :(
They want to know what I am going to use my pictures for! then I need to show them my pictures and tell them I am just a tourist snapping away.

Just waiting for a train after my brothers stag do last night.

We did a party boat on the Thames. Our group were the only guys on the boat, the rest were hen parties so it was quite the night. Anyway, by the time we got on the boat the rain had stopped and London at dusk looked so beautiful. I did keep thinking I'd love to have my camera and tripod.

Looking at the calm of the river and then into the chaos on the deck was quite a contrast.

Sony RX100 ? ;)

Spent all day going round in circles!

Budget is probably the biggest prohibiter in my life.

I'm undecided on whether the 85mm batis is worth the extra cash over the 85mm normal read the reviews and seen both but I have no real experience of either. Or do I spend a little more and got for the 70-200 f4. Or will I just regret it and want the f2.8 of which is divorce money.

The Batis is nice. I prefer the look of & that side button on the FE85 though..... I was/am tempted with it but my Batis is very sharp which sets me in two minds..?!?

Something that's been keeping me busy the past few weeks getting it up to scratch :)

I bought an A7 MkII the other week to replace the A6000 that I was so impressed with which I use purely for steam railway/landscape stuff.
The lens I eventually chose for it is the FE 55mm F/1.8 which I'd read a lot about.
I also do some motor bike racing stuff as well as the steam railways and for this I use a 7D MkII so I thought I'd give the A7 and lens a test at a meeting this weekend.
The light was pretty dire and I had to crop quite a lot because of the short focal length but I was suitably impressed. (400 ISO, 1/500sec. @ f/4)

Now if Sony can come up with a decent battery!!!

People in this thread have a penchant for spending your money so I'm sure someone will be along shortly to whisper...

A9!

:D
I have two official Sony ones and three after market ones. Aftermarket ones are cheap as chips not had an issue. Then I didn't have any issues with my Nikon ones either. It's not like the Sony stuff is made by hand it's all imported from China or Japan depending on where it's made.

I only have two, one Sony and one from evil bay. I've never come close to using two in a day.

Motorbike racing and bigger battery, yeah sounds like an A9 :D
I use the 7D for bike racing and I don't spray and pray so don't need 20fps. ;)
It's bad enough going through 300 shots after a meeting never mind 6000!...................life's too short.

ps. I only took a couple of shots with the A7 purely to check the lens out, the 7DMkII+100/400II is my bike racing kit.

I think i may sell my A7r2....

Wont you miss the resolution?

Do you think that the A9's image quality is better than the similar mp count A7's?

Lovely picture BTW and I can't see how anyone could object to it, it's not rude at all.

Yea i may miss it for landscape. Overall the A9 performs fast in studio like my 5d4.

It's studio work why are you firing like a machine gun. There will be no reason for that! Tether like a real pro they don't moan about the slight delays!
I'm not shooting in burst mode! Go and take 1 frame per second and for over 10 seconds and see if you can instantly view your images

In fact you may actually run out of buffer that time!

The Sony A9 battery life is better than the 2.2x Sony claim compared to the A7 series. I think 1 battery is easily enough for a days shoot / wedding.

@jonneymendoza do you carry may batteries, what life are you getting?

I've compared some photos from my A7RII and not really lacking anything in the A9, I never made use of the 42.2mp as never printed etc.

The A7RII is still probably a good choice for landscape/studio work but the A9 can easily compete if resolution isn't a factor.
The A9 colours and white balance is better.
