Video camera on hotshoe

Couple of times I have seen photogrpahers at football with a small white vid camera looks like) on the hotshoe.. can anyone shed any light on what these are ? recently saw one on telly in background so couldnt ask ..
 
Not sure what the 'white one' could be for sure..
But used a small video cam myself on the hotshoe at times.. good for making BTS type of videos to go with your images.
I've used a GoPro, Sony and TomTom cameras on the hotshoe myself..
 
All white or white fronted? Probably something like a goPro equivilant, SJ7000 sort of thing. I've seen people using those as you can pick them up for around £30
 
Are they simply used to get video along with the stills?

That'd be a very good idea. At the moment we put my GoPro behind the goal for an alternative angle in the highlights package. But on the camera sounds cool?
 
I've used one on top of a Lumix G3 with an adapter from Amazon (about £6) don't get the one with the small ballhead though, they tend to swing about a lot!

should be a few photogrpahers at the game tonight... little club v premiership.... will see if i can find someon using :)

love the idea though....on a 400mm as the people i saw had them..
 
I always thought filming was against the DataCo regulations?

I've seen people filming the crowd at matches and also doing post-match interviews with journalists etc but I can't say I've ever seen anyone pointing one at the pitch at a League level match.

it is... and thats where i have seen them... thought it a bit sneaky... personaly i wouldnt have any use for league match vids... but for grass roots i can see where i would use it certainly :)

on all of them ? even the sony ? or are you reffering to gopros ?
 
Well now I looked into it.. realising you can get a hotshoe / headscrew I can put any tiny video cam on.. so just find a small one with a decent enough range.. not gopro style and bobs yer uncle :)

That's the one I was thinking of... just check the field of view on the one you gonna get. On most you can adjust the FOV - not as in how we zoom on DSLR's .. but they are not all set to the single FOV.

All I need to do is find the smallest cam that allows some sort of zoom :)

Nobody had one at the match... lots of photographers.. Not one single picture from anyone in the nationals today.. I was OK for local paper.. wonder how the rest made money ....

I think the Sony white one has bit of 'zoom' - but don't expect anything too far reaching :) If I remember correctly, it has three setting Wide, Medium, Narrow.. 17mm, 23mm, 32mm.
So not gonna get much close-up action with that in footy.

They didn't which is the continuing trend these days. It won't be long until the day comes around that nobody makes any money at all as there will be someone desperate to do it for free.

i didnt post that pic as one i was looking to buy mate.. i posted it as...thats kinda what the one i saw looked like :)

I did stoke v rochdale last night.. i could see the agencies there.. i didnt bother sticking my nose in laptop all night and instead concentrated on doing a job for rochdale as thats what i was being paid for.. no point sending to nationals i bet anyway... giving up on that side unless i get something fantastic :(
