I like these 'vignettes', especially the last one with the milk bottles.

Upper Heyford air base resonates with me as my maternal grandmother married a sergeant in the USAAF in 1942 and I subsequently grew up with an American ex-serviceman step grandfather and my grandmother who regularly visited the airbase for the PX (The US equivalent of the NAAFI) and took me once when I was very young telling me "that I was going to America". I thought after the hours drive or so to get there "It's not that far away then"
