The "Canon Powershot G Series" owners thread

This was a shot from Cosford Airshow this year. It's a Bristol 188 also called the Flaming Pencil that was built in the late 50's as a testbed to understand supersonic flight and the effect of heat on the airframe. The test pilots must have a lot of courage taking that through the sound barrier.

Loads of info here

(Sorry for the poor picture quality - camera to flickr to iphone to post )

Thanks for sharing your shots everyone. (y)

CLICK HERE for one from 2 days ago, my "Active" entry for the TP52s, there's comments over the page, with more to come (?).

Some great shots here! We use our G7x primarily for video but its great to see so many good looking shots being taken with it. The star trails have inspired me to take some of my own now!

Took THIS jpeg in Hyde Park yesterday, the gull wouldn't let me get any closer, on full zoom but with digital zoom off. Later cropped to this:

Bring this old thread back. I still carry my G7X everywhere.

Bringing it back with a bang, these are both fantastic images.

I've just been on a 7 mile walk in the lakes and when returning to the car my thoughts where, I wish I'd taken the G7X.

Thanks Billy

Safety Shift, as far as I can understand, is a Canon peculiarity. In Tv (Shutter Priority) mode set at say 1/2 sec to get motion blur, enable Safety Shift and the set shutter speed will be overridden. Your shot may be taken at something like 1/50 sec (so no need for tripod) but the result is still cool motion blur + low ISO when set on Auto. It seems by magic the speed is increased to prevent overexposure but the result is what you'd expect from your pre-set shutter speed.

Add the Integrated ND filter to the equation and it does little to effect the shutter speed but does give a nice result.

I don't know if anyone can add to this ?? ... but here's a brief explanation ... https://photofocus.com/2012/08/19/what-the-heck-is-safety-shift-canon-users-listen-up/

HERE ARE A COUPLE of G7X hand-held shoots posted last year.

Real nice image, full of atmosphere, depicting the grandeur of the old venue. Any special camera settings?

Here's one from me taken a couple of weeks ago ... a simple pavement shot but with a wonderful wide feel (FG pavement) ... I like.

I don't think you get quite the same from other 24mm equivalents I've used.

And I see it in the above Supertramp shot. (y) ... big FG with depth.

Am I having a senior moment? What is FG please?

Yep ... foreground. (y)

Yep, full auto :D

or it might have been hand held night shot

I remember the days when AUTO was for sissies, now, unless you want dof or motion blur, Auto is more intelligent than us humanoids.

Been having a play with Night Scene ... intriguing, but it seems to reduce your field of view ... therefore no beautiful wide angle which the G7X does so well.

Anyone got the G7X Mark II? I was looking to upgrade my RX100 Mark I to something a tad newer for basic family videos over a camcorder and general snaps rather than a phone.

I still have the MK1. Ace little camera. For the extra money I don't see the MK2 worth it.
