Hello

I have been thinking about buying the 14-140 super zoom for my G80 to replace the 2 lenses I currently use.

At present I use the kit 12-60 and the 45-150 but whilst tottering around on the coastal cliff tops off Cornwall, trying to change lenses (whilst avoiding being blown over the cliffs onto the rocks below) it sprang to mind that there is an easier way to do this..

I've read the mainly positive reviews and can only really find 2 negatives - the loss of the very useful 2mm on the wide end (not bothered about the 10mm on the long end) and the loss of weather proofing.

So has anyone anything to say about the 14-140 mk ii ?

thanks

I tried a friends 14-140 mkII for a few days to see what it was like compared to my 12-35 & 45-150. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but it didn't leave me satisfied and there was just something "off" about it for me.

There are a LOT of threads on DPReview about the various versions of m4/3rds travel-zooms, which is what you are asking about.
My "walk-around-lens" is the Lumix 20mm ...

Do you have one of the 45mm/42.5mm primes yet? Buy it now.

Sam could you expand please? Was it the smaller apature/lack of pop or just the lack of definition with a lower quality lens?

I'll have to have a look for the photos I took with it as it was earlier in the year. IIRC the images just lacked the crispness/pop of the 12-35 at similar apertures. It was reasonably sharp.

I don't think you'l see much difference in IQ between the older 12-60mm and a superzoom such at the 14-140mm tbh, in fact many say the 14-140mm is better. (I've not seen enough info on the 12-60mm that was released this year but apparently this one is better) I understand what @CSB is saying though with him using the 12-35mm f2.8, there's something about this and the Olympus alternative (12-40mm f2.8) that has something more special about the images compared to the other 'non pro' zooms. I'm an Olympus user and my walkabout is the 12-40mm f2.8, but if I was a Panny user my walkabout would be the 12-35mm f2.8. I rarely need a tele when out and about, but I do tend to carry my 40-150mm around with me as it's so light it's really not intrusive. For the odd time I need to swap it's not that big a deal for me, especially considering how small and light m4/3 lenses are.

But back to the original question, the 14-140mm would certainly be a viable option without any significant loss in IQ imo.
