No
Not sure of the best place to put this so I am sure the mods will shift it.
My Daughter is very much in to photography.
Every year I make her and my Son a present
Only for a bit of fun really.
I managed to find a small vintage light box, I want to place some slides on it showing the many countries she has visited (35+)
So what would be my best source?
I have looked on Ebay but not had much luck unless I want a box of 500+
I was hoping to get one from each of the following showing a land mark etc. any tips on the best landmarks would be good
France
Germany
Portugal
Spain
Austria
Latvia
Lithuania
Poland
Holland
Denmark
Estonia
Russia
Albania
Greece
Slovenia
Sweden
USA
Lots of others I will have to look at her scratch map.

No idea mate, I wouldn't have thought there was much call for those. Hence their rarity.

Good luck in your search.

Just a thought - how about obtaining photos and copying them with a film camera loaded with slide film?

I did wonder about that.
I think she would like the idea of other peoples retro images though, but its another option
Hang on a moment you have me thinking could I have the slide film processed but supplied unmounted? IE still in strips, as that may look better on the viewing box? Thanks you have given me some inspiration.

Now Terry you have stated another thought.
Could I not copy a set of her photos then some how make a projector type lamp to project all 36 images on to a wall?
How on earth could I do that????

How about lay all the unmounted slides on the lightbox and use a macro lens to photograph them.

Then project the digital image.

But I have less than 100 Days!
This makes the full size traffic light for her bedroom wall look easy

You can ask for slides to be supplied unmounted, it's not an unusual request.

Would it not be possible to make a collage (even one that looks like film strip?) of her travel images and get it printed on acrylic to the same size as the light box and mount that so that it is backlit?

PS are acrylic prints suitable for backlighting???

Yes, LED strips often backlight acrylics in galleries / exhibitions etc.

The OP says the lightbox is small (I have one from my slide film days with daylight colour correction tubes in it) and it fairly sure that 35 slides would have been too many at any one time.

So any idea such as mine will depend on the actual size of his lightbox and just how big each individual image with be within the collage/montage???

But for it could make for a nice very personal present.

It used to be common to buy a set of slides when you were on holiday. A projectable alternative to postcards.

They exist, it's just trying to find them which might be a problem.

Steve.

I bought one of these battery/mains powered light boxes from Home Bargains a while back and use it as a desktop display for my unmounted slides. 35mm/120 slides fit on the slots with no issues and the quality of light output is surprisingly good for the cheap unit

For your images, you could simply print digital images onto overhead projector acetate sheets and cut them to use on the lightbox

Steve.
I think my parents bought a couple of sets (like 20) from Italian cities such as Florence and Venice.
They used to take slides before camcorders came along, but typically only took a couple of 36 shot films so it was not a bad idea to mix in a few of the bought ones if they did a slideshow evening.
So European locations you might find some, quality was not brilliant though.

Have you googled Woodmansterne? Not sure if they did foreign slides, but they were the major firm in the U.K. Doing tourist slides

I have been looking but some on Ebay etc are very expensive but no idea why?
I have a few days off soon so will try the local charity shops etc.

The box is small about 6" x 10" but from memory its about right for what I want to achieve, as you say its personal present, more about the thought than the cost / value, I try to make something for them each year and they have bought me some really random stuff!
I am going to try and clean the box up this week and I think I will fit LEDs inside it, she will take it to Uni so it ends to be compact

You can have digital images 'written' on to slides. DSCL Charge about a tenner for the service. You could use her own holiday snaps etc.

35mm slides are a bit small for viewing by themselves though.

Just found it on the website and it looks to be £7 per slide based on 10! so might have to do it my self
