Iceland / New York Trip - I have a D810 / iPhone 7 Plus - should I by a gopro to record the trip?

As the title says, I will be taking my D810 & iPhone 7 Plus with me on my trip to Iceland / New York.

I have been looking at a go pro to record some of the trip and make a short movie. Although I am a photographer, I feel a video shows a trip like this better. Also, I'm not sure but it might be easier to make time lapses etc with a go pro. I was asking a videographer friend and he suggested a hero 5 black or get a gimble for my iPhone.

Any thoughts or advice? I doubt it's something I would use much after although I have been thinking of a drone.

Thanks

Yi 4K or 4K+ is a better buy.
Hero5 has stabilising but it's not very good.
Hero6 has cracked it but £499 is outrageous.

I’d spend the money and get a gimbal if you want to shoot video. Cost the same as a GoPro.

Borrow one, you're welcome to borrow my 1080p go pro chinese copy if you live near me, I'm in Exeter.

Get a Zhiyun Smooth-Q 3 Axis Gimbal and use that with your iPhone. You can also mount a GoPro type camera to it incase get something cheap.

There are issues with the iPhone 7Plus and handheld gimbals. The phone's OIS fights against the gimbal's motion.

Are you not able to turn off the OIS on the iPhone? Is this the same case for any Android device like the Pixel with OIS EIS?
