Nikon D750 & D780

D750 is small for a full frame but not that small for a dslr! The cheap options are so tiny! I saw a friend cheap nikon dslr with a kit lens and it's just the size of a bridge. I was kind of impressed but still i think the d750 is a better option!

And share my secret recipe? You must be kidding ;) :p.

Lol indeed!

I've done the same as you with an import preset but i've not had any clarity and not touch at the HSL menu. I've not tried to emulate the in camera jpg but just a starting point with a bit more omph that the very dull raw file which come out. I generaly found the camera standard colour profile already helped a lot at getting darker blacks. But as you said, i played with that a couple of years ago so i'm not sure exactly what i did!

I did use the Fuji more I think. But got fed up with several things and as I moved to weddings I needed a tool I could rely on. I loved the XT1 but it isn't a patch on the D750
I didn’t really gel with the XT1. Whilst I thought having all the manual controls would be great I actually found it more fiddly to use. Fuji lenses were really nice, sharp to boot, but the Fuji artefacts were the final straw. I now have the EM1 as my lighter option and am very happy with it.

Have you got any example images you shot that you didn’t like?

D750 would be the only DSLR I would go back for I
I think. Problem is unless you got for the A9, all mirrorless have downfalls:

A7 - Slow and crap ergonomics - very expensive lenses
A7II - improvement but no dual card slots (thinking on the wedding front)
A6500 - again no dual cards
X-T2 - crap functionality with LR to an extent

Only downfall of the D750 for me is the size and weight, the reason I went mirrorless.

Saying that I think the D750 + Tokina 17-35mm + 24-120mm f4 is relatively compact

Images are on the Fuji thread somewhere, I’m not going to bring it all up again as I got a bit of flack ;) And I tried many a different software to try and overcome it.

Quick question though not specifically D750 related but you are a smart bunch:D. I received the following message today. Could someone give me some kind of idea what to charge for this. I have never sold anything before so don't really know where to start. They left all their details inc phone number, name and business address.

Philip
I was wondering if you would call me on 0**********
I have a few projects coming up for bespoke wallpapers and my customer would like NI scenery.
I was wondering how much you charge to let me use some of your images on a 1 off basis .
I found your pictures on Flickr and really liked them .
Please let me know if you are interested

Gosh, this really is off topic. Is there nowhere on this forum that seems more suited? :shifty:
For exemple https://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/talk-business-professional-photography.43/

In case anyone is interested, i rang her today and she is an interior designer and is interested in a couple of my shots. One is a pano that i shot at the summit of one of the highest mountains here in Northern Ireland and she wants to print it at 25ft x 8ft for a wall in an office complex. That will be interesting to see.

What was the issue, isn't it under warranty?
I think this is what Nikon firked up while in their hands sorting the shutter/shading issue under the recall.

Hi everyone, I know strictly this isn't a d750 question but would be interested if anyone knows the answer or has any opinion on this.

So I pretty much decided on getting a Tamron 150-600 G2 lens for my d750, but have been biding my time on price. It seems like Tamron are giving nothing away to retailers for Black Friday.

At the mo I could get a "like new" lens from mpb for £899. The alternative is DigitalRev for £897

Anyone know what the guarantee would be from mpb? They offer 3rd party extended guarantees as do DigitalRev, but price of those vary quite a lot and not sure mpb's is worthwhile as only 1year....but 1 year from when?

Thanks
Chris

Then surely the bill should be £0?

MPB is 6 months warranty on used stuff

Just to add into the mix. Reason I was looking at Tamron g2 was that gray price wasn't that far off the price of g1 or sigma contemporary.....but just noticed now the sigma c dropping to under 700 with UK retailers .... So maybe I should just save the cash and go that route! D'oh!

Yes was meant to be.

As stated it went back after the shutter recall. With the on board flash not working and the shutter control not working.

I had to make a phone call this morning hopefully all sorted.
Was shocked and peed off to see that last night.

Just dealing with carp from open reach and having a hormonal pregnant girlfriend then this came in. Was thinking oh joy.

How much would it cost to send back to DR if you found an issue?

@siblingchris , e-infinity have the G2 @ 779 GBP 12 months warranty (return to them in UK) its a Grey.
Looks like the best deal, its who I got my one from.

So lens fine tuning people...

I was asked to take a group photo at work yesterday and was the first time trying out the 35mm, i wasn't that pleased with the sharpness of it if i'm being honest.

I've never done a lens calibration before so spent the last day looking it up. Lots of expensive charts you can buy but went for the home printout as a starting point.
Looking online it was recommended to do your focal length * 50 (so 35*50 1750mm). 1.7meters is a fair way from the paper i was working from, which meant zooming in to see them and they were not particularly clear. So ended up about 1 meter away instead.
Here's a before pic at about 1m away

As you can see it was front focusing fairly bad.

So had a play and adjusted to what seemed an OK range for a few different distances, here's the final result and a crop of about 1.8 meters away (which was just longer than the recommended).

As you can see the middle section is in focus, but due to the distance hard to read the numbers clearly.

Lens is much better now and will see how it goes before deciding if i need to buy the sigma dock.

Quick test subject went past as i was packing away, SOOC 12800 iso

The cat picture looks great, to say it was a quick snap.

I've been meaning to do the same for my two Tamron lenses for a while as often I find I'm missing more shots that I'm getting right, with things a little blurry. Maybe I'm just rubbish at keeping still, not sure!

Thanks
I have a shoot on Sunday, so was keen to get this sorted before doing it... although i'd feel happier with some human test subjects before it :(
No family members willing to help?

Why would you take the risk a couple days before a shoot?
It's only free shoot for a friend and daughter, ill hopefully get some of my lad tomorrow to test it a bit more.

Risk either way - new lens. I'll monitor during the shoot too.

Definitely worth checking at least.

Not at this time, and at a birthday thing tomorrow :(

Take it to the birthday thing ;) TBH though it doesn’t have to be people to test in the real world. Just go round the house and garden (tomorrow) shooting random stuff from various distances, this will let you know how it’s performing.

thanks will give it a go.

Just looking at the sigma 35mm interface for the calibration.
You can calibrate at the distances of:
0.3m
0.4m
0.6m
infinity

How do you calibrate a lens for infinity?

Is that the sigma dock? For infinity focus just focus on something very far away. Don’t trust the infinity mark on the lens unless your lens has a hard stop and doesn’t go past infinite (most modern lenses go past infinity).
