I use the Fujifilm xf23 f2 for street, which is a great lens, but its time I bought a second lens to had to my bag. Which one should I purchase as I'm struggling to decide?. HELP!!! lol

Hi Steve

I guess it depends what sort of street photography you enjoy. My instinct is to say go wider - maybe the 16mm (24mm equivalent). However, I accept that some people enjoy shooting from further away and if that's the case the 56mm 1.2 is a joy to use (and amazing in low light). It's also great for street portraits. The only one I would avoid is the 35mm 1.4 which I find to be slow and noisy (but fine for zone focusing in MF).

Cheers,
Brian

The 56mm isn't exactly speedy to focus either, I'd go either 16mm or one of the other F2 primes

If budget is an issue the Samyang 12mm could get some interesting results, but you'd have to get in close and preset focus, it's an MF only lens

i use 17-35mm 2.8 also 24-70mm 2.8 both nikon and that does me for street

I suppose it depends why you think it's time to buy a second lens.

I just purchased an 85mm lens to use on my full frame camera, normally I use a 28mm or a35mm for street but I really wanted to try something different so tomorrow I'm off to London to try it out.

I will be photographing two models in London streets in October and I will be using my Nikon 24-70mm I find it plenty wide enough and it focuses quick. I would like the VR version but I work with what i have got.

if you know you need a 2nd lens don't you know what it is your present one is lacking? need wider/more reach? or is it just a case of gas?

Using a 28mm for street, and the one thing I felt missing was the ability to create clean compositions with straight lines - a 50mm is what would be good here.

For walking about I like 28mm, either the Leica Q or the Leica 25/f5.6 Summaron. The Q in auto mode will default to f/1.7 unless it gets dark. Best is in decent light just to leave the Summaron at f/8 and infinity, point and shoot.
If street becomes portraiture, then 50mm for me.

Don’t buy until you find you can’t get what you want to capture with your existing gear/kit.
are you finding that your lacking in distance or width with your existing lens ?

The Fuji 50mm F2 is a really nice lens, fast and sharp
