Nikon D750 & D780

Aren't Sony No.2 already? I thought I'd read somewhere that they've leap frogged Nikon but knowing me I could be wrong ;)

Yeah, ideally every camera should upgrade all departments with each incarnation, I'm just not sure that the D750 successor will have more MPs as I'm not sure which sensor they'd use. I'm not aware of a Nikony 30mp sensor so they'd probably have to use the 36mp from the D810 I'd have thought, or an incarnation of it anyway.

I'm waiting to see if the D850 has any recalls, still early days yet. Did the D810 have any?

I think they are, wasn't sure If it was worldwide or only a few regions.

I'd guess that they won't be using a Sony sensor, but who knows. I just put 30mp as a number.

D810 has been recalled for the thermal issue.

Sony claimed No.2 position for Full Frame cameras, in America, for a one month period. I don't think there have been any other claims by Sony of being No.2.

Sometimes MP upgrades are for the sake of it though. As I commented above ... I think Nikon are in a bit of a hole when it comes to sensors as they have to either rely on Sony or find themselves another manufacturing partner.

Yes the D810 had a recall ... ironically the one camera that hasn't had a recall (as far as I can see) is the D610.

No, unfortunately the logic board and the new touchpad made it too expensive for them. They replaced those two items, the SSD as it's part of the board and the top cover, so pretty much new again.

Just finished installing from a time machine backup, seems a better reinstall than when I migrated over from my last Mac, even CC seems to be working as it should.

The d3300 didnt lol

March this year. At least it's fixed, just got to wait for the insurance to sort. But, will be £250 out of pocket with the excess and fuel etc.
Just remembered, didn't you spill something on it so it's not covered by warranty?

Canikon are both lagging behind in video, the difference is Canon is improving usability with a touch screen and OSPDAF, so at least they are doing something,

The point is manufacturers are updating their AF, nobody wants a new camera without any updates. Canon 6d2 has 45 cross type AF points, Sony has gotten to the stage where its as good if not better than the competition. Are you suggesting Nikon shouldn't bother?

Yes, reliability is a problem for Nikon, pretty much every modern Nikon dslr has had a recall for main components like AF and shutter, then theres battery recalls.

Have you not noticed that everyone is increasing megapixels? Its a good thing, computers are more powerful, memory is cheaper, sensors can be higher MP than last gen without any IQ penalties.

It would be silly to suggest Nikon not make these improvements to a 3 1/2 yr old camera at refresh, Sony will soon become No.2 because Canikon haven't been innovating enough.

I really don't find touch screen any help at all. I had one when i had a canon 70d and just found it annoying. What's wrong with buttons? What can't you do and why is it any better?

All you ask for is in the nikon d850, the improvement made will trickle down and some will be available on the next nikon d750.

I'm not a fan of touchscreens on cameras either, I turn mine off on my EM1. Nice for those that want them though. Out if interest can you turn the touchscreen function off on Nikon as well?

Do you use a phone with buttons?

Of course I know that.

then theres battery recalls

Wouldn't count that as a recall. The D500 'ate' the older EL-15 so Nikon offered to replace the older ones with newer ones FoC.

Separate to the D500 battery problem there was a recall for potential overheating and short circuiting of batteries (USA link but there was a UK version too)

Nikon have had their fair share of recall issues but they seem to have dealt with it very well. I still think we have got to the point where the limitations factor isn't the tech, whilst new models may bring an upgrade of functions/features the older models have more enough tech that they aren't the limiting factor. Manufacturers need to sell new models and their marketing department have to make the case that you can't possibly get by without the newer kit.

Yes i do. But mainly because i don't want internet, facebook and the like on my phone. I enjoy having a week of battery life. Not only that but it doesn't cost me an arm to get a new phone.
I think on a camera buttons and dials are way better that swipping a screen.

I also find that I accidentally activate functions and move the focus point with touchscreens on cameras.

Thought so.

I think you'll find most advanced cameras with touch screens also have buttons and dials. You don't have to use the touchscreen. Every new model is now implementing it (for good reason)so I guess you'll have to stick to your d750.

I tied the snow board to the back of my landrover and drove round the empty works carpark with the 7 year old on. Was brilliant fun. Had the other half sitting in the boot with the boot open being safety advisor and videoing it.

You mean the really pregnant other half in the back of landrover, driving though a snoowy field with the boot open while pulling a 7 years old on a snowboard. Sounds very very sensible to me!

So my new years resolution is to shoot at least 3 models next year, so thought i'd start the ball rolling now.

It's something I've always put off, why, honestly... it's because i'm nervous about doing it.

So i approached a couple of people on purple port. Got her rates and thought if i got another photographer to come along it would split the cost for us both... so asked if she minded... "that's fine, but i'll charge both photographers the same rates"... no discount... what's that about? Surely it's easy money!

Never had that before. Myself and my mate do a few model shoots a year in my little home studio and never pay "double bubble". We usually get local models, and the average charge is £20 per hour. So we usually do a 2 hour session and bung her a few quid for petrol, so £25 each all in.

No need to be nervous about it Mark. After all, you are paying her for her services and not under any pressure to produce amazing images for her. It's not a TFP shoot, so no stress.

You sure you’re in central England? I’m in the Midlands and we’re about 7” deep in it!
Sorry. more north east :D
Kind of assumed it was just the southerners and scotland that got all the good snow!

Agreed, cheers... just need to dive into the deep end really.

What do you do when you pay for a model... Is it normally just cash on the day? I appreciate they may want something upfront?
Also what do you do about images, i'm a bit reluctant to give away any images if i'm paying for the shoot.
