Sony RX100

Anyone had any experience of claiming Sony cashback? Seems that there have been problems in the past and I'm 'thinking' about an RX100 III.

Thanks,
AL
I had £40 cashback on a Sony lens recently.
You need to provide full purchase documentation, and in the case of the lens, a photo of it's serial number.
Once I fulfilled all the requirements, the cashback was paid after about four weeks.

PS. Make sure you are buying an eligible item and not a "grey" import.

Had some problems with the cashback, they said the image wasn't clear enough of the serial number. Sent another, still not good enough. Felt they were stalling in the hopes I wouldn't send any more...
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the image quality whatsoever. Ended up sending a further email with about four seperate shots (all pretty much the same) just to make a point...

This time it was accepted! About four weeks later I received the money.

An awkward experience, but sorted eventually.

Hi all,
Apologies if this has been answered many times before - but I searched this thread for 'case' and did not find a definitive answer..some suggestions / older threads for items which may no longer be available.

Can anyone recommend a compact sized zipped pouch/case for the RX100 M4 - would like it as small as possible. Just holding the camera and possibly a spare battery?

Thanks!

After similar. I bought a "Dura Gadget" hardshell case of eBay as it recommended it for the RX100. It does fit but only just but no room for a spare battery/card etc. I need something slightly larger than the Dura Gadget case and preferably hardshell as I take the camera with me on my MTB.

I have been using a Crumpler CC70 since the original RX100 was released and it does neatly fit the MK4 plus store a spare battery too (placing it in the pouch on the right hand side of the camera lens). Although I believe Crumpler no longer manufacture them, they are still available on eBay for example............ :)

Cheers - found a CC70 on Ebay, looks good - but it's white  - there are some PP70 in other colours - but it seems like the PP is too small - internal dimensions seem to vary between 2cm to 3cm deep (depending on where you read)....

Weird though because the Ebay listing for the CC70 list it as only 2.7cm deep - and yet your 41mm M4 fits neatly...

It does fit "neatly or snugly". As it is a pouch it has some give, so guess the Crumpler dimensions are modest. Even though the lens is flat against the pouch case there is 2 layers of material to protect the camera. I have not had any issues, but am careful with any of my equipment. :) Yes I too noticed the white one:eek:.

Just ordered a Kata ZP-4 DL - I spoke to the seller of the PP70 and he said the PP70 is much smaller than the CC70, He said he tried out a RX100 in a few small cases/puches and the Kata was a good fit - which was confirmed by a few Amazon UK reviews for the Kata.
Will report back on fit here - once I get mine.
I have a much bigger Kata case for my GX8 and its one of my favourite bags (on the rare occasion that I use the GX8!)

Ok - got the Kata ZP-4DL
The Mk4 just about fits into it. Have to be a bit (but not overly) careful when closing the zip - to ensure it does not catch the body.
It has a little internal pouch (for SD card), but definitely NOT getting a spare battery in there - if you put the camera in facing the front of the case and the right hand side of the camera at the top.
However, if you shove a battery right down to the bottom of the pouch and then put the camera with the lens facing the back of the case OR the left hand side of the camera in first - then you can just about make both fit - but very tight! And then it becomes bit of an effort getting the camera in and out...
Pics are without battery in the case

How strange as the Kata looks to be a tighter fit than the Crumpler CC70 I am using which according to their measurements is a smaller size?
Maybe it will stretch slightly with use?

I agree - it is strange. I had discounted the Kata based on the measurements - but the Ebay seller (gwcameras) said he had personally tried the RX100 inside the case. And given it was only £7 including P&P - it was worth trying out.
I think I will carry the battery seperately - as having in the pouch does make inserting and removing the camera a bit too clumsy for my liking...

Just acquired an RX100 Mk3 as a handy little compact walkabout camera, where it'll team up with my trusty D7000 to try and revive my photography mojo.

Had a play about with the Sony camera yesterday evening, this is a single 15 seconds shot at F9 and ISO200, I set off a hand held old school flash gun three times in a dark room and the end result is as shown . . .

Very tempted with MK3 at the moment with deals on offer......I do deserve a Christmas treat after all !

If anyone else tempted by mk3
Costco have mk3 in for £509 with 2 year warranty then claim your £150 cashback
Quite pleased with that little Christmas cracker!

Looking to buy the rx 100 mkIV having read up it seems the mkV isnt worth the price hike and may as well get mkIV

Looking at used prices around 550

BUT

currys have it at £660 with 100 cashback.. I ahve never used cahback before.. do you get the money or credit?
would make the camera new £569

https://www.jessops.com/p/sony/cyber-shot-dsc-rx100-iv-digital-camera-96957
is this price about right or can i get much cheaper used.. have been searching ebay

PS using as pocket camera but also quite a lot video 1080p not 4k.. this camera unlike others simmilar takes advantage of extra buttons on my Crane M gimble hence why I ahve decided on the rx range..

Any buying advice?

@KIPAX I have recently upgraded from the RX100 M1 to the M5/V and the video is phenomenal. I wanted to use the RX range as a camcorder replacement and the auto focus and 1080p quality is just amazing. I am used to a larger rig so the smaller size is handy. I made do with the M1 for a long time but the video features on the latter models are brilliant.

Are there any other M5/V owners in the thread who can comment on battery life? I have noticed the M1 was a lot better in the battery department than the M5/V? I am just shooting 1080p video and the small battery has meant having a few extras in the kit bag to get me through the day.

M1 to M5 of any camera will eb a shock to the system and a massive up up.. but m4 to m5 doesnt seem so much according to some users... may save some money going M4 :)

The cashback is the Sony Winter Cashback promotion.Once you have purchased the camera, you need to make a claim on the Sony promo website, part of which involves supplying your bank details. After a few weeks the £100 should be credited to your account from ''Link Network" - at least that's what happened when I bought my Mk4 from Amazon back in November. The cash was credited around 2 weeks after I made the claim.

Personally I would buy anything from Amazon over Currys - in case I have problems with it. I have found that Amazon customer service is far and above Currys offering....

If someone has a genuine BC-CSXB charger, could they please upload a picture of the back of the charger please.
Would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is the MK1 normally a reliable camera, or do some have lens issues? I would like to pick one up soon, as an in pocket carry around camera. Just a little short of cash at the moment, lots of bills :( . Will try and get one when I have some spare cash :)
WOW I can hardly believe I posted the above so long ago. I never did look into the RX100 any further, it sort of dropped off my radar. I have just been looking for another compact, and my interest in the RX100 has been rekindled. I see the MK1 is still available for sale at about £329. So, is is still a good option today?

I bought my mk1 for about £220?

Edit - just looked, the mk1 prices seem to have gone up again!

I am in in the same boat, I have just sold all of my gear to go compact or mirror-less and have kinda of decided to get the RX100.

looking around it looks like the sony cashback deal has just finished, but I might hold out for a secondhand mk3 for around the same price of a new mk1 or wait for another Sony cash back deal.. who knows when that might be.

I am sure I remember the RX100 being about £249 when I was looking at them, obviously this was a few years ago. Hmm, maybe I should have bought one at the time.

just pictured up a RX100IV last week, for a holiday camera, to save dragging the DSLR around (low hand luggage allowance too)

impressed so far it the IQ of pictures it takes and those posted by others

For £500 I bought a used mk5 at New year and it is outstanding at video, even in ridiculously low light and very high ISO.
Pictures are good too but the JPGs are a little underwhelming, and won't take much adjustment.
From RAW detail is astonishing and if anything images can look oversharp after downscaling.
The only snag is battery life especially with video, but 3rd party ones work just fine (under £5) and you can charge from USB too which is still not that widespread in cameras.

A stupid design flaw is if you flip up the screen it hits the camera and will scratch, you also can't quite see a few mm at the bottom - with some info there.
Any kind of tripod mount blocks the battery door.
And I'd much rather have mic input than viewfinder, even though it is very good.
However onboard audio is impressive if you are out of the wind

I have been looking at the Sony and debating, as I also have one eye on the Canon G7X. The Canon is about £500 and looks similar spec to the Sony. Just the RX100 seems so popular.
