This year I went home for a family Christmas with a plan to get out and do a bit of Landscape in the Dark Peak. Thursday was due to be the only good day according to the forecasts so I duly headed out in the dark to make it to Mam Tor for sunrise. I was expecting a bit of snow, having been over to Castleton for a Carol concert the previous weekend, but I was completely unprepared for the gale - it was seriously hard to stay upright at the trig point!

I was happy to share the view with a few fellow masochists who had also struggled up the hill and enjoyed the craic. It makes it all a little more bearable as the toes begin to lose feeling!

Nice pic Drew, I was there in January this year for that image, and boy was it cold and windy. Well worth the effort tho mate, well done
 
Very atmospheric, must be pleasing to get a great result
 
I like that, very nice light ..... Interesting to see the snow just dressing the ridge, but it didn't make it as far as the valley.
The light striking the gate is very nice too(y)

All the valleys in the area were snow-free. They looked very cool, but the light wasn’t quite right to show them at their best.
 
Yep, I like that. A view I personally have given up trying for after a couple of failed missions from suffolk!

Fortunately my parents still live up there, so I had a good few days to wait for the right weather. I’ve been up again this weekend and have just got back from a visit to Over Owler Tor which wasn’t snowing, but was still pretty cold!
