Hi all, I’m looking for recommendations for a point and shoot camera for around £400, I know it won’t be up to dslr standards but I have a dslr already but need a quality little camera with good video also that will fit in my pocket.

Cheers.

Point and shoot, as in Full Auto mode? I think all Cameras have that mode.

PS

Just read you post properly, you mean a Compact Camera. :)

If its a jacket pocket rather than a shirt pocket its got to fit in I would have a look at the Panasonic LX100. larger M4/3 sensor, tons of features and 4K video.

I was reading about this camera, does look like a decent camera...think I may go to a shop to see actual size.

Ok so after looking a lot it’s a choice between the LX100 or LX15 the LX15 is a newer model so newer sensor but smaller sensor than the LX100, so now wondering which camera gives the better picture...can anyone help me in this.

Cheers

Another vote for the RX100 series. You'll get the M3 within your budget with current cashback offer. Also Canon G7X, G7X MK2, LX100.

You really need to go to the panasonic site, premium compacts and compare the two as they are different beasts so to speak.

LX15 - No viewfinder, smaller sensor thus not quite as good low light performance, lens slightly faster @ 24mm as F1.4 Vs F1.7, shorter at the long end 72mm Vs 75mm on the LX100, on the plus side it has greater resolution at 20mp and 5 axis image stabilisation Vs 3 axis on the LX100.
LX 100 - Larger sensor, better low light performance, similar specs otherwise, has EVF, Comes with detachable mini flash gun that fits on the hot shoe, downside is its larger and heavier.

Now the rx100 m3 looks decent, in currys it’s 530 with 150 cash back..I’ve looked on flikr and seems to take quality pictures...dumb question but with the cash back I’m guessing you get that weeks after purchase?

Been looking myself over last few weeks and I have just about decided on a Sony rx 100 IV
At the end of the day theres not a lot between them all for pointy shooty-ing but having read a lot of reveiws plumped for rx100 there is a mkIV but by all accounts not a massive improvement on mk IV so hence that one for me :)

Yeah IV looks good but think I’ll have to opt for m3 as my budget is limited, I’m off to New York next year and don’t want to take my dslr and all it’s gear so that’s the reason I want a quality compact.

Cash back takes a few weeks, subject to meeting criteria, being recognised place of purchase and valid receipt.

So sorry for being dumb, if I was to purchase this from currys I’d have to claim for the cash back...thought if I payed by card it would go back on my card.....never had cash back before so sorry for stupid questions

The cash back goes to your nominated account. Personally, I'd buy from John Lewis as they will price match and offer two years warranty on cameras.

I tend to get my items from them, because of the two years warranty.

sony rx100 great photos but can have reliability issues mine had the switch on battery drain issue.

I have just replaced my rx100 with a canon g7x mkii and I'm very happy its a little bigger than the sony but its seems better put together. Pics are still great little better in low light.

Another vote for the Sony RX100 series, great IQ vs size etc.

I recently bought a Panasonic Lumix LF1; Much cheaper, closer to £180 for me off Ebay. I like it because its got a decent size sensor - and the images seem really really good! Absolutely minute as well, but still packs in a 28-200 lens and a viewfinder - which is great for emergencies. RAW and Wifi compliments it. Worth a look, I would say. Otherwise, the TZ100 with an even larger sensor is the next one to go for!
