The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I wonder what they'll do with the ones they recall? Sell them as refurbished maybe or just bin them and move on?

Given the price of stuff leaving the factory and the cost of recovering them never mind doing anything with them such as sending them to a repair centre and replacing the screws (or whatever else needs replacing too) there's bound to be an argument for not bothering to collect them at all.

Surely it would make more financial sense to just replace the screws then send them back out to retail again? I wouldn’t call replacing screws “refurbished” and it would be ridiculous to scrap a £3500 Camera for it.

I probably wasn't being 100% serious about scrapping them or not collecting them :D but there'll certainly be a cost to recovering them and carrying out any remedial work. One problem with not collecting them is that the owners probably wouldn't bin them and they'd inevitably work their way onto the used market and continue to hit Sony's reputation so for that reason alone it's worth at least collecting them even if they're then binned :D

If they do even something as simple as changing a few screws I think they'll have to be sold as refurbished as that's what they'll be, used cameras with clicks on the shutters that have undergone some work back at the manufacturer or their agents.

Well mine falls under the camera that need sending back :(

Does anyone have an official press release stating the recall? I will need to contact park camera about it and if I can return it through them.

I'm not a Sony pro member

Interesting, mine doesn't fall inside the affected units :D

I might not be understanding the issue fully but if it’s just a case that a batch of cameras were assembled using the ‘wrong’ screws in the hotshoe there wouldn’t be any clicks added to the shutter to repair them? If Sony are recalling unsold units, they’d just replace the screws and resell them and they would still be ‘new’. In the case of recalling used cameras like Jonney’s, that would fall under standard recall terms and the shipping/repair would be carried out under the warranty.

CaNikon/Fuji etc have performed bulk recalls in recent times for oily shutters/halos etc and it’s just a normal manufacturer process.

Check out the post in Sony alpha rumours. It has various range that it is affected
Gulp :(

Time to send mine back then....

You can check here.....

An email came through from Sony yesterday actually, they are offering a free check/repair service through their website. Our rep tells me that the issue only potentially affects less than 2% of cameras globally (and even if they are potentially affected the problem might never arise) so it's a very rare issue. It's great that they have been up front about it though and decided to sort it properly.

You can check if your is affected here:

If it is you can either deal direct with Sony or bring it to us and we'll sort it, whichever is easier for you.
:D

SNOW!!!!!!

Anyone else off to take pictures in the snow?

I'm having a busy and upsetting time here so I don't know if I'll get out and even if things are ok Mrs Woof Woof may not want to leave the house.

Ah, I'm sure I read that Sony were going to replace the affected cameras with new ones but what I read may have been a poor translation or just wrong and they may be just replacing camera that are with dealers and haven't reached customers yet and recalling those that have reached customers so my comment about clicks on shutters was about replacing customers cameras with new ones and Sony possibly selling refurbished customer cameras but it looks like they'll be recalling cameras, replacing the screws and returning them. Dunno what they'll do with unsold cameras though... rework and sell as new or as refurbs. I've been involved with both cases in the past (not my fault :D) and can say that customer reaction to recalled units being reworked and sold as new at new prices isn't always all that enthusiastic :D

"Overall, we really like the new Sony FE 24-105 f/4 G OSS. It’s a well-thought out, well-balanced and well-executed standard zoom lens that will satisfy a lot of people’s needs at a price that isn’t too eye-watering. Overall, highly recommended!"

I'm waiting for reviews of the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4.
